Ronald's Story

LIFE After graduating from Fresno State College, I joined Cadet Training Class (CTC) VI-66 on July 18, 1966. I met my wife Suzanne at the California Tip Toppers Club (CTTC) in September 1971 and was married in August 1972. Sue and I were blessed with twin daughters in August 1973 and a son in June 1978. After two successful careers, I retired on May 31, 2001. I was a substitute teacher for nine months until the doctore ordered to quit becuase of foot problems. I now volunteer at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church where I maintain the church's computer systems. On November 1, 2009, I was informed EDUCATION As can be seen, my early education was a year here and an year there. I began school at Stone Corral Elementary School about 20 miles northeast of Visalia. During the summer, we moved five miles down the road and I attended 2nd grade at Yettem Elementary. I returned to Stone Corral Elementary where I attended 3rd, 4th and the 1st quarter of the 5th grade. We moved to Navelencia (southeast Fresno County) where I completed the 5th and 1st half of the 6th grades. We returned to Yettem mid year and I graduated from Yettem Elementary School in 1957. We moved again and I attended Mt. Whitney High School in Visalia while all my friends from Yetterm attended Redwood High School in Visalia. I graduated from Mt. Whitney High School in 1961. While at Mt. Whitney, I am best remembered as the Snow Cone man. I attempted basketball my freshman year, but was a big clumsy 6' 6" person. My sophomore year, I tried the wrestling team but broke the ankle of the school champ. I then gave up and became the manager of the freshman track team. COLLEGE I started my college career at College of the Sequoias (COS) in Visalia. My emphasis was Law Enforcement, however, I graduated with a AA in Liberal Arts. During my sophomore year at COS I was the president of the Associated Men Students. I served as the chairman of the homecoming committee and attended student government seminars in Monterey and Santa Barbara. My freshman year, I was one of the leads in the Desert Song Operetta. My sophomore years, I was the doorman for the Music Man musical. In 1963 I transferred to Fresno State College (FSC now CSUF) where I majored in Criminology, Law Enforcement option. In April 1965, I was injured in a fire extinguisher explosion while working for the college fire department. I basically lost the spring semester and because of the way college courses are sequenced, I was forced to stay at Fresno State until the spring of 1966. I was a member of the Fresno State College Student Police where I rose to the rank of Lieutenant. POST GRADUATE I did enroll in the MBA program at Fresno but was transferred to Los Angeles before completing the MBA program so I enrolled in the Masters of Business Management program at the University of La Verne and complete my coursework, receiving credit for all work completed at Fresno State. I also obtained my Community College Teaching Credential from UCLA in the summer of 1971 CAREERS I stated my first career on July 18, 1966 (One month after graduating from Fresno State College.) as a member of Cadet Training Class VI-66. assigned to the Norwalk Area Office (now Santa Fe Springs). In August 1967, I transferred to the Fresno Area Office. In November 1970, I transferred to an administrative position at Southern Division Dispatch. I served as the Administrative Officer until October 1973 when I transferred to the Claremont Area Office (later Ontario and now Rancho Cucamonga Area) so that I could be closer to home and spend time with my twin daughters. In December 1974, I was asked to return to Southern Division to assist with the establishment of the Los Angeles Communications Center and to help implement the Highway Patrol's first Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. In 1976, I was promoted to Sergeant and stayed at LACC as the Computer Systems Coordinator. In 1983 I transferred to the Ontario Area Office and served as the Acting Lieutenant, managing the Office. I was also a member of the 1984 Olympic Planning Committee and was responsible for supervising the development of a computer system for tracking CHP equipment and personnel during the 1984 Summer Games. On May 2, 1984, I was placed on disability leave pending retirement. I was officially retired from the CHP on September 9, 1985. After being placed on disability pending retirement, I accepted employment with Modular Computer Systems, Inc (MODCOMP) as a Pre Sales Computer Systems Analyst at the Los Angeles Office of MODCOMP. I was subsequently promoted to Western Region Support Manager and was responsible for both pre and post sales analysts. I finished my career with MODOCOMP as America's Support and Sales Engineer. Notable customers were NASA, JPL, US Steel and several nuclear power plants. On May 31, 2001, MODCOMP made the decision to close all field sales operations and move all sales activity to the Ft. Lauderdale Corporate Office. As I had no desire to move the Florida, my employment was terminated. After leaving MODCOMP, I took and passed the CBEST examination and accepted employment as a substitute teacher with the Chino Unified School District. I was forced to cut my teaching career short in April, 2002 because of problems with my feet. RETIREMENT I am now officially retired and keep occupied by volunteering at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Ontario where I maintain the church's computer system and membership database. My wife officially retired from a 33 year teaching career on June 20, 2006. Subsequently, she and I have taken cruises to Alaska; Mexican Riviera, Victoria, British Columbia and the Panama Canal. On the Panama Canal cruise, we visited New York, Florida, Columbia, Costa Rica and four ports in Mexico before returning to Los Angeles. We currently have a cruise scheduled for Hawaii this fall. We have also found time to do a road trip of upstate New York, the American Southwest (Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah), the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota and Utah.) In 2006, in conjunction with our Alaska cruise, we took a seven day bus and train tour of Alaska from the Arctic Ocean to Seward. We also manage to return to Visalia two to three times a year to visit family. We are also hoping to take cruises to New Zealand and Australia and South America and Antarctica. So much for dreaming!
