Ronda's Story

Life Anyone that remembers me will find it hard to believe that I work in a school and am very involved in my church. :) I have been married for years now, and live in a little house about 15 minutes from Disney World. I love living in Florida, because I can go to Disney, Seaworld and Universal Studios any time I want and I'm 45 minutes to an hour away from numerous beaches like Daytona, Melbourne and Cocoa. My daughter, Robin, is 18 and just started college. She's interning at one of the local radio stations and having a great time. My son Ernie is 6 and in the first grade. He's a smart kid and is always making us laugh. My husband would like to have more children, but I'm pretty content to wait for grandchildren. When I get that maternal instinct to have another child, I get a puppy instead. I don't have to send them to college. I love to read, hate to cook and spend as much time as I can with my family. I'm looking forward to the 20 year reunion (Yikes, it hurts just to think of it!) since I missed the 10 year. School I went to Ontarioville Elementary in Hanover Park for 1st through 6th grades. Unfortunately, I've lost touch with most of my old friends. I had teachers like Mrs. Dunn, Ms. Julius, Mr. McCue and the most memorable of all- Mrs. Swick. At the time I thought Mrs. Swick was crazy, but now I understand her. As an educator, I now know that you have to be a little crazy to work with kids all day. Years later, I can also quote almost every word from the musical 1776 and have a weird fascination with the revolutionary war. I went to Tefft Middle School in Streamwood for 7th and 8th grades. Most of it was uneventful, and when everyone cried because it was over, I was ready to move on to high school. I just remember having a crush on this boy in 8th grade and then later thinking, why? I began 9th grade at Streamwood High School, but moved to Hoffman Estates High School later in the year. ...Expand for more
I graduated in January of 1989, and although I loved the academics, I could do without the drama. I most remember my French teacher my senior year, Ms. Matla, who had a kind word for me when I really needed it. I remember hanging out with the rest of the gang- Spanky, Darla and Alfalfa. I really didn't enjoy high school like I should have, and I guess that's why I decided to become an educator, because I know a teacher has the power to make students look forward to school or to despise it. College Before I graduated from community college I got married, had my daughter and got divorced, so needless to say, it was a busy time. I also worked at least one full-time job and sometimes a part-time job, too, during college, so I didn't get to do all of the fun college stuff that most other people do. I graduated with my AA from Valencia Community College in 1993. I went to the University of Central Florida for my undergrad, and by then I worked as a substitute part-time. Even though I was still extremely busy, I was able to be a member of Sigma Tau Delta, an English honors society. I graduated with a BS in English Education in 1995. I went back to school and recieved my master's in Educational Leadership in 2003 and have the student loan to prove it. I'd love to get my doctorate, and probably will eventually, but don't want to be paying student loans 'til I die. Workplace I have worked for Orange County Public Schools since I graduated in 1995. I have been a classroom teacher, a counselor and am now an administrative dean. I have spent 10 years at the same school, and it's interesting to see siblings of kids I taught years ago, or to see former students that now have their own families. My goal is just to try to make a positive impact on anyone that I come into contact with, students, families and co-workers. I can retire in another 13 years, and I think I'm going to head down to the Keys and be a beach bum. :)
