Roni's Story
Life
After my graduation from CHS, I went on to USF and graduated with a BA in History. I then worked at the NY World's Fair that summer ('65) and left to join the Peace Corps. My training was at Northern Illinois Univ. and in Hilo, HI. We left for Malaysia at the end of Dec. and I was sent to Bongawan in Sabah. I was there for a year and then transferred to Tawau, Sabah. The Peace Corps was a life enriching experience for me!
When I returned to the US, I joined my family in southern CA where I received my master's degree from the Univ. of CA at Irvine in Comparative Culture.
I began teaching Kdg. in the ABCUSD and continued teaching for the next 38 years in ABC, having taught elem., middle school, high school and adult students. It was then (June of 2005) that I retired and am presently working with the Migrant Education Program at a MS, part time.
During my tenure with ABCUSD, I served as president of the ABC Federation of Teachers (ABCFT), vice president of the CA Federation of Teachers (CFT), and am currently a member of the state CFT Retirement Committee. At last year's CFT state convention, I was presented with the "Woman in Education" award and made a presentation in which I urged the convention delegates to become involved in the fight against the ongoing genocide in Darfur, Sudan.

ul grandsons and I try to get up to see them as often as possible.
In addition to my eldest, I have another daughter, who is an artist and a son, who is a musician. For those of you who knew me, music and art were part of my life...especially the band at CHS!
Since I work part time, I have had more time to become very involved with the tragedy that has enveloped Darfur. I am a member of the Darfur Task Force and have also involved the ABCFT and the CFT in the fight to end this ongoing genocide. This also includes the South Coast Interfaith Council (SCIC) of which I am secretary to the Board of Directors and also a member of the Social Concerns Committee and Interfaith Relations Committee of the SCIC. We are all working together with SaveDarfur.Org and Amnesty International, to try and end the tragic and senseless rapes, destruction, killing and starvation of the people in the Darfur region of Sudan.
I hope you, too, will involve yourself by becoming educated on this issue (if you are not already!), educating others and communicating with the pres., your senators and reps. regarding our promises to the people of Darfur which have, unfortunately, not been fulfilled and urging that we honor our promises!
Please realize that they could have been us; that we could also be as they; that we are all a part of something greater; that we are responsible for each other; that we are better for being united in our hearts and in our actions!
Be well,
Roni
