R. L.'s Story
Life
Strange how life gives you new twists. It took me many years of being denigrated in school over my inability (told by teachers) and made to feel that I had no learning ability to find out that my mental capacity was more than I could expect. I ended up going to military language school three different times in addition to learning two others by being in the particular countries. Stranger than fiction is that I am also a college graduate and I could have gone even further had I desired to. A bachelors degree in Political Science with a minor in Sociology. Also I found through researching my genealogy that my heritage is actually Cherokee/Choctaw and Black. So for all of you who never really knew me, tough. en life handed me egg, I learned how to scramble it and believe me, you can do anything if you put your mind to it. From high school to the Army, to becoming a master paratrooper, a member of an elitist unit, the Green Berets US Army Special Forces and able to retire twice.
Let me add this since I did not know much about my background until I entered the military. One, none of you knew that I was in foster care during my time in school. Two, my name was not as indicated through my entire time while in school. Three, I had to request the school to change my graduation document and records to correct it to R. L. Harris. Even though many of you knew me as Roosevelt L. Vick or Roo, that is not my true name, a fact that I realize should be corrected. Please make note classmates.
