Roscoe's Story
After leaving K-town in June of 1960 we were assigned to Ft. Meade, Md. near my hometown of Annapolis. I attempted classes at the Univ. of Md. for about a year and a half, but owing to circumstances (hitchhiking to campus...14 miles...and working 3 part time jobs to get money for each semester) couldn't make it work. So I enlisted in the Army April 1962. Took basic and advanced infantry training at Ft. Jackson, SC. Ended up with the 1st. Cavalry Div. on the DMZ in Korea. Stayed 19 months. Then to Ft. Benning, GA with the 11th Air Assualt Div. Discharged April 1965. Got a job about a week after my discharge, and enrolled in night classes the following Sep. Took ten years but I finally received my B.S. in Accounting June 1975. Meanwhile, met and married my (1969) wife Lois. She had two girls by a...Expand for more
previous marraige and we had a daughter in 1973. We now have 5 granddaughters and 1 (finally a boy) grandson born in 2007. Lois retired 2005 and has been providing daycare for our two youngest grandchildren. I am still running my accounting practice, maybe not for long.
Some of my classmates may remember that I played trumpet. What most of you don't know is that I share the title of "All-USAREUR Trumpet - 1960" with a student from Frankfurt AHS. Didn't play again after leaving K-town....long story....but I started again about 4 years ago, just play occasionally for my own pleasure now. Maybe after I retire, I'll practice on a regular basis again. Still have the lip.
