Rose's Story

Life and Living the Dream" 1970 – 1990: After our February Graduation I joined the Air Force. I truly loved every assignment and did a lot of growing up in a short timeframe. In 1970, I was in Texas for basic training and then to Wichita Falls for medical technician school. From there I was sent to Illinois for my first assignment. I met and married my husband and we had 2 children now grown with their own families. 1972 I was sent to the Philippines and grew up fast. This was the first time out of the USA and living off the base opened my eyes on how people live under a dictatorship. The PI was under Marshall Law. I would not recommend it, but that is where the AF sent me. While there I attended to the returning POW's and learned a lot about life. 1974 I had my son and 3 months later we left for Illinois. There I retrained from being a medical tech to an orthopedic surgical technician. 1977 I went to Germany for 4 years. While there I took care of the Iranian Hostages and learned to live in terrorism. 1980 brought my daughter into the world early! 10 weeks early! 1981 I was assigned to Vandenberg AFB in Lompoc CA for 1 year then transferred back to TX for 2 years. 1984 found me in Albuquerque, New Mexico for a 5-year assignment that turned in to a lifetime assignment. 1990 I retired from the Air Force after 20 years & 8 months. Upon retirement I began working for Wackenhut Security Services as a Leadership and Management Trainer. That led me into training emergency management policy then standing up an Emergency Operations Training Academy. In October, 2000, I became a federal employee with the Department of Energy and was made the Federal Director of the training academy I stood up. In 2004 I was transferred to Washington, DC as the Director of Administration and Training for the Office of Emergency Operations. During my time at DOE Headquarters, I have worked in the Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence and was assigned to the White House for a 2-year detail working on an Executive Order implementation. 7 I was the Policy and Directives manager for Emergency Operation and the Department of Energy and National Nuclear Security Administration. In 2017, I retired to care for my daughters last child. Kids Two children, a son and daughter. My son Scott Duffman was born while I was stationed in the Philippines. My daughter was born in Frankfurt Germany, again while I as stationed there. Upon graduating from HS my son joined the AF and was selected for the Pararescue career field. Unfortunately, he was killed in Afghanistan on 02/18/2007. Sadly, he left behind a wife and 3 month old daughter. My daughter was born 10 weeks premature but made up for it in short order. Upon graduating from HS in NM she went to UNM for 2 years. Then decided she was going to be a Flight Attendant with AA. She did that for 5 years then decided to finish her degree. Upon graduating with a BA in HR, she started working for the government as a support service contract employee for 9 years after which she became a federal employee. She is now a Program manager in the CIO’s office with the National Nuclear Security Administration. Husband #1 lasted 14 years and #2 5 years. Was single from 1991 and very comfortable with my life. Upon moving to Virginia, I met and married #3 and we have been married 13 years and going strong. Between us we have 5 adult children with families and that gives us 8 grandkids to spoil. Their ages range from 25 – 3years. As of Christmas 2020, we have 1 engaged grandchild. I am very happy with how my life has turned out and all that I accomplished. I have seen a lot and I have accomplished more than I ever imagined possible from my HS days. Now I fill my retirement time with travel, grandkids, and anything I want to do. Updated: 12-26-2020. Siblings: Like many of you, my younger siblings attended Fairfax HS, and JB Jr. HS. Behind me was my brother Joseph David Crowle. We called him David, but some of his friends in ROTC called him Joseph. Behind us was out little sister Doretta Marie Crowle, and we called her Dori. Updated: 2/1/2021.
