Rosemary's Story
Hello All,
I started working and Illinois Bell as a long distance operator in fall after graduation. I worked there for a 1-1/2
years until I got married in January 1962 to Frank Varela. We had one daughter Jennifer born in 1967 during the snow storm when we had 27 inches of snow. We moved to Valpo in 1970 and built a house on US Highway 30 near 250 West. I was a stay at home Mom until 1971. I started to work as a shoe sales person at Miller's Mart. In 1973 I went to Von Tobel's and worked there as the Credit and Office Manager for 27 years. In 1985 I married Ben my second husband who worked there too. We were divorced in 2002. I moved to Chesterton after the divorce. I have been single now for 12 years. I have 3 grandsons who has lived in Wisconsin for 11 years. I don't get to see them too often. They are 19, 17 and 15. too good at driving through downtown Chicago. I still love to dance although I don't know of many places to go around here and haven't found a partner to go with yet. I wrote some poetry in 2002 and built a website on geocities for them but geocities closed their website. my Aunt who wrote songs and poems published them read my poems and encouraged me to publish them in a book or at least send them to the Library of Congress. I chose the latter...I leave you with one of my favorite quotes......."Life isn't about how many breaths you take but how many times it takes your breath away."
I like most kinds of music except for heavy metal and rap. I had spinal fusion back surgery in 2006. There is 2 titanium rods and 12 pins and screws in my lower back to replace the missing discs. Thanks for reading my story and have a great day...
