Carol's Story
After school, I went to CSUF but didn't finish. I discovered the wonderful world of dating and partying. Needless to say, most of the 80s isn't stored in my long-term memory.
I married Keith Irvine in 1989 and we had two beautiful girls, Megan and Taylor, who are now 16 and 15. We moved to Iowa in 1992, not long after the Rodney King riots. Keith passed away in 1995 at the age of 30, when the girls were 2 and 3-1/2. I met and married Todd way too soon, in 1996, but after a rocky start, God has worked things out for the better. We have been married for over 12 years now, and we're learning as we go. We had his three kids with us for several years, but they are grown and gone.
I had my deer-in-the-headlights baby, Zander, in 2002. I found out I was pregnant only a month after I had figured out the month and year we would have a empty nest. Too funny. He is 6 now and an amazing little boy. We are homeschooling him (actually, my hubby is doing it; they have a wonderful time together).
I work as a medical transcriptionist for a Des Moines hospital, but I am lucky enough to work out of my home. I don't really...Expand for more
enjoy my work, but I'm thankful for it. I kind of fell into it. But I'm learning that everything happens for a reason.
My life is full of family, kids' activities, and my own hobbies. I do the Nutcracker performance in Ames every year with my daughter Taylor, who is a dancer. Luckily, adults don't have to be that good! Both girls are cheerleaders and are 200% prettier and cooler than I ever was in high school. I'm so glad I've been able to raise them in Iowa. It's a great place to raise kids.
Update on 08/02/09:
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in January...almost done with chemotherapy, then off to radiation therapy. I have full confidence that I will beat this with the help of God and my family. Hope that all is going well for the rest of you!
My plan was to visit California again in the summmer of 2010...after my first-born graduates. With the medical bills, though, not sure it will happen. I've been in touch with a few of you through Facebook, which has been fun. I hope to see you whenever I'm able to.
May your life be full of joy and blessings. I'll hopefully talk to some of you soon.
