Roy's Story

Life Graduated Covina High School 1959. Attended 1 year Mt. San Antonio Jr. College, Walnut, CA and 1 yr Brigham Young University, Provo, UT prior to serving a 30 month ecclesiastical mission for my church in Germany. Completed a BA in German and an MA in International Administration at BYU when I returned. Worked in banking and university administration for a few years. Wasn't what I wanted. Returned to school at University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and completed a Masters in Hospital Administration in 1980. Have been a health care executive ever since, and have administrated hospitals ranging in size from 20 to 360 beds for the last 30+ years. Currently Sr. Vice President for Project Development for a rural hospital development company. Have traveled extensively - Europe, Far East, South America, Mexico, East and West Carribean, Southeast Asia. Have held faculty appointments at various Junior and State Colleges in Utah, Wyoming, and Nevada. Taught organizational development, business ethics, and business law. Have served on state hospital association boards in Utah, Texas, Nevada, and Wyoming. Due to other commitments, have struggled to keep my music up, and now relegate my piano play...Expand for more
ing to private sessions for myself, family and close friends. Fortunately, have not had similar problems staying fluent in the German language, which has been a definite plus when traveling in Europe. Have also studied Spanish, but real fluency still evades me, as numerous natives in Mexico, Spain, and Brazil can attest. Enjoy travel, golf, outdoor sports (especially water skiing), classical music, jazz, and reconnecting with old friends. Plan to retire when current hospital construction projects are completed in three years and then complete law school to satisfy that particular life goal. May add a couple of classes in organ theory to keep things interesting. Facinating how the line between the theoretical and the practical seems to blur a little more with each passing year, especially when it comes to a personal values system and determining what really is most important. Have learned - in some cases the hard way - that there really is no "wiggle room" when it comes to behaving in an ethical, honest, and socially responsible manner. Life has been good to me, and, with the Lord's help, should continue to be so for the remaining 40 years of my life. Oh, yes, I plan to live to 103.
