Roy's Story

Life MSgt-USMC; 1986 to current; IRR; MOS-0231/2621/2631; Well, things have changed over the last couple of years. I have dropped to the IRR (Inactive Ready Reserve) due to my ankle and shoulder not being 100%. PT/rehab is complete, but it is now up to me to get it back to as close as 100% as possible. Docs say things look good, but it will be a very long road. Obviously, I will not be deploying because of my NPQ status, but hopefully, I will be in a position to do so before the year closes out. Recently (last Jul) i purchased a new condo in downtown SJ. Price & interest rate was down and the location just seemed right at the time. The whole area is being upgraded and renovated, so things look good. Now all I need is for the Sharks (walking distance to the tank) to break their slump and I would be a happy camper. Been diving a little more than I have over the last year. I am trying to get down to Monterey at least once a month. Was up in Reno/Tahoe a few weeks ago and got cert'd on the Dolphin SCR. This thing is an awesome piece of gear. Depending on the depth and the mix I use, I can stay down for alot longer than the conventional open circuit. Also, no bubbles and no noise, so getting closer to sea life will be easier. The course was not difficult. Lots of things to do before getting in the water and some changes while in the water. Overall, the course was fun. The people at Sierra Dive Center in Reno are a great group. If they were closer, that would be the shop I always use. Only draw back for that weekend was the water temp. It was damn cold (42 degrees)!!! Even though I am diving dry, I had to move up to a thicker garment. Normally dive with a mid-weight weezle, but had to go with the Ultra-400. That kept me warm enough on t...Expand for more
he second day, but it is really bulky. Looking into the 4th Element Arctic weight. Suppose to be really good. Need to research a little more though, don't want to drop all that $$$ for something that is not going to work for me. Adopted a cat on Mar 10. Name is Sparky. He is an orange & white tabby who likes to play around 2 am. A friend took him him on a temp basis to try and find him a home. It came down to either me or the pound, so, I got a new roomie. S/F MSgt Roy D. Sanchez College Thinking about going back for my master's. Not quite sure yet, it has been some time since I have been in school (not counting military schools). I guess it will all depend on where I land up. In the running for some new jobs and where I land up will make a big difference. Military 2007 was an interesting trip, definitely an experience in the extremes. About to hit my 22 year mark, and as of now, I plan on staying in for awhile. From what I have been told, I am "safe" from any near future deployments, but that can change overnight. With the OPTEMPO the way it is, I understand I can be sent off at any time. Not a problem. I knew it always has been a possibility. It is hard to believe that it has been almost 22 years.I guess time flies when you are having fun. There are a few things I would like to have done over, but overall, I have no regrets. This is something I have always wanted to do. I have traveled to more places than most people. Seen amazing things, both very good things and very bad things. Met many people who I will never forget. Formed bonds with others that transcends a normal friendship. This ride has taken its cost though, been through some things that I would never wish on anyone. All in all, I would not trade this for anything.
