Margaret's Story
After graduation from the only high school in Darlington that counted, St. John's High, my family moved to Columbia. Went to Columbia College. Thought I wanted to teach. HATED IT! Should have gone into medicine to begin with. While in College, dated a really interesting guy. Almost married him but it's too long a story for this site. Finally did married only to get divorced 5 years later. Ain't life grand. I do work in healthcare. Changed jobs. I now work for Lutheran Homes of SC. I'm a registered nurse. My experience working for DHEC inspecting Healthcare facilities has been an marketable asset. My work with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services was exciting, an invaluable learning experience.
Since Graduation I lived in Columbia. Dad's job moved him and our family to Columbia and the College I was accepted to was also here. I returned to school to pursue a degree in Healthcare and got it. I've worked in nursing homes and in hospitals. In 1995, I moved back to the Florence area for a while. Worked at CHS Sub-acute Unit for about 6 years. iked. Finally got married and moved back to Columbia to be closer to his and my family. Divorced 4 years after moving back to Columbia. Even worked for the state.
I'm not a parent. God didn't allow me to have children but I sure have spoiled a bunch of nieces and nephews. Now it's time to work on their kids. You could call me their surrogate grandmother. 12 nieces and nephews and 8 great nieces and nephews.
My best friend would tell you I'm very loyal and forgiving, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as unapproachable and a harda$$.
I'm a person who prefers to be comfortable in what I wear but will rise to the occasion.
If I had it to do over, I would follow my heart and go into medicine straight from High school.
My oldest friend is one I met in the first grade. We still communicate with each other from time to time. She's on my Facebook page and Even on here. Her name is Patricia Howard Mintz. We met in Mrs. Champion's class at Pate Elementary and have been friends ever since. We've had our fights but something keeps us in touch. I am blessed to have such a friend.
