Russ's Story

Hello everyone. Wow, I can't believe it's been twenty years! About a year after graduation I moved to Nashville Tennessee for school and to try and make a go in the music industry. I was accepted into a very good rehab engineering program. As I was attending school I began working in small studios as an udio engineer's apprentice. School was tough at times but ever so rewarding. At the same time I was working my way up the ladder as a freelancer in the studio buisness. Upon graduation I went to work as a rehabilitation specialist in augmentative and mobility design. It was there that I decided to specialize in pediatrics, or rather I think it chose me. I worked in Nashville for the next seven years. I continued working in studios and playing music as a side job. At that point I was offered a position as a mobility designer in Chattanooga Tennessee. I was also offered a job by the state in Nashville at the same time. I chose the job in Chattanooga, while helping Ryan Abbott get the state job. He's been there every since, and I am very proud of the guy he's turned into. I decided after 911 that there was a need to do more than say I support our country. Because of my age and career obligations, enlisting in the military was not the right choice for me. I still needed to do my part though. I decided to apply to the fire academy. I thought the least I could do was protect the families of those protecting our country. I was accepted and worked my way up to Lt. on an engine company. I recently left the department due to a strenuous travel agenda for the medical group I work for. I miss being on that truck! After working in Chattanooga for two years I accepted a position with another company as their Rehab department director. This is where I am still at. In 2007 I decided to open up my own recording studio. ...Expand for more
It is called Three Dogs Studio. We record everything from voice over work for local commercials to bands. When we originaly opened, I was not sure how well we would do, but we have been very fortunate. We keep a steady line of work coming in. I have the best of both worlds....a great professional career, as well as a fun, and profitable side buisness. I look back at high school sometimes and really miss it. It was a great time in my life. My parents did not have a lot of money, so I did not get to dress the way I would have liked, or have a car.......all things that every teenager thinks they must have to survive....I was ashamed sometimes because of not having that stuff. But as I have gotten older I realized my parents did the best they could. I never lacked attention or love or great friends. In this world, that's as good as it can get. When I started earning my own money I went a little crazy. I had to keep up with the Jones. Now I am just happy to have great family and friends. That's why I am on here now. I miss all my friends from home. I am a huge animal activist! I have four dogs. I tend to spend a lot of time rescuing dogs. 10% of all profits the studio makes goes to the Humane Society. Dogs ROCK! There were a lot of great times in high school. But I did some pretty dumb things as well. I was mean to some people back then. If you are somebody I was mean or rude to in school, please accept my most sincere appology. When we are young we tend to "know" it all. Ask poor Mrs.Cox. I gave her a hard time everyday, and she still believed there was a better me hidden inside. Thanks Mrs.Cox. I recently saw Ryan Abbott up in Nashville and his son. He told me about this website, so here I am. I hope to hear from anyone from Columbia. Life is good! I hope everyone's lives have turned out how they hoped.
