Russ's Story

Life Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, BS Mechanical Engineering 1981. Stockton, CA 1981-1984, San Francisco, CA 1984-1991. Married 1991 to Karen Halladay of Pasadena, CA. Austin, TX 1991-1995, attending University of Texas Law School, JD 1994. Fairfax, VA, 1995 - Present. Evan Joseph Paige, born 1993. Courtney Diane Paige, born 1995. Divorced 2004 (finally). Currently practicing patent law. Joined Ron Paige in 1987 sailing to 30 different Caribbean Islands between Puerto Rico and Venezuela, still ranks as the greatest adventure I've done. Can be found, try russpaige h*t ma_il School Hawley Elementary, Mrs. Austin's k'garten: Liz Peck, Wendy Kruger, & Rolande Buxton confused me. Chad Burroughs amazed me, & cont'd to do so as long as I knew him--anyone else remember Mrs. Austin washing Chad's mouth out with soap? Miss Pape's 1st grade, a gorgeous girl named Kaaaarin, something like that, must have moved immediately thereafter. In 1st I met Russ Garrity, remained a great friend through grade school. Still proud of being "Harrigan, that's me!" in the St. Patrick's Day pageant of Misses Pape's and Glorioso's classes. Peter Meier arrived at end of the year, lifelong rivalry began. June Komen-goodness, she was cute-dominated my 2d grade memories, Miss Curtis' class. June went to St. Rose the next year, never to be heard from again. Mrs. Stokes' 3d grade class, I became aware of ~a hundred Sullivan sisters--Karen was in my class, she brought homemade Rice Krispies treats. I think Martha Draper was in my 3d grade class too, & there was a girl named Kathleen Tompkins--very smart, but another one who moved soon after I met her. Hmm.... 4th, Mrs. Parr for hr & social studies, Mrs. Bender for reading, Amy Reichardt and I competed for the highest scores in SRA reading, Mrs. Flint for math. Mrs. Parr quickly separated me and Gary Pepe--good kids, but we weren't going to pass up any opportunities to tell jokes or cause mischief. Mark McGrogan impressed me with his British accent. Debbie Aiken-a hero-shut down the Santa Claus debate with "of course Santa Claus is real, Santa Claus is the spirit of Christmas!" Fifth grade, Miss Lathrop, Mr. Goodwin, Mrs Parker (my onetime babysitter, when she was Marghita Nagy), and Mrs. Palmer for math--she really pu...Expand for more
shed us in math that year, & she had a reputation for screaming, which she did mostly at Taras Pavlovsky. Elizabeth Schwerdtle, I'd known since before kindergarten from Sunday School at Congregational Church, found a permanent soft spot in my heart when she consoled me about the (first) death of Life Magazine. 6th--why didn't I do all I could to convince Linda Stasko that I was as great as I wasn't willing to admit that she was? Go figure. Diane Fehr, OMG don't get me started about how I let that ship sail! Sheesh. Terry Johanesen & I were fast friends that year, we drifted apart pretty quickly. I put a tack on Gilbert Teal's chair right in front of Mrs. Bryan, and got away with it! What a teacher's pet. Jean Gloria started to strut her intellectual stuff, Lori Nordman arrived. Everyone should have as loyal & interested a gf wannabe as Lori Nordman was for me, but no one should be as loyal and interested a gf wannabe for someone as clueless as I was. Knocked out my front tooth in a collision with Norm Hanrahan's skull. 7th, possibly my peak year. Mrs. Hawkes' after school sensitivity sessions still resonate. Wildman, Vouros, Palcic, all great dedicated teachers. I didn't hate Mr. Bolander. "Snow White and the Eight Dwarfs," a scream--did anyone videotape that masterpiece? My 2 year overwhelming crush on Carol Cassidy began, caused me to overlook Alison Merz. 8th: Felt sorry for Mr. Sweeney, so dedicated and patriotic. Turned down a meal ticket in Shelley Warren, future Junior Miss CT. The famous "no swearing" rule-ha! Pam Blaine was beautiful, I yielded to peer pressure, never talked to her. Science classes with the "Strange Quirke of Nature." Spent every weekend and after school working on the house in Redding. HS at Barlow was great. Never understood Kathy Stueck, but loved her the same. Even with the disfiguring acne, I'd do JBHS again--I might get a haircut sooner, though. Barry Nielsen, what a great teacher-he refused to accept anything less than my best. Gene Primavera, as standup a guy as there is. Maureen K and Ross Calabro, couldn't be more concerned teachers anywhere. Kate Gadarowski, you've been accepted at heaven. Beating Newtown in Football senior year, outstanding. Fond memories of a brief HS fling w/ Karen Ginn. Laura Bostrom, sigh...
