Russell's Story

Life While I didn't graduate with the class in 1974 from Adrian, it is the high school I always remember. I moved back into the Star, Idaho area in 1999, moved to Nampa in 2004 and then moved away from Nampa in 2008. We are now living in the Portland, Oregon area (we now live in Beaverton) and would love to hear from other members of the class or other classes that might remember me. I am married to Tina (28 years now -- in Aug 2008), have 2 kids, Joel and Duncan, 22 and 19 respectively. I have been programming computers since I graduated college (seems like a fit, eh?). I love photography, reading and working with kids. I have also taken up recreational gold prospecting. Had a lot of fun in 2007 and 2008 digging for gold. We became members of the New 49'ers this year (see their website at wwwDOTgoldgoldDOTcom). I am looking forward to going to Happy Camp, CA this year and doing some prospecting. We have home schooled our two boys and has it been a ball! Duncan, our youngest, graduated from home school in May 2007. He had his diploma handed to him by the governor of Idaho and his name read by one of the Idaho supreme court justices. Home school is a lot of work, but it is very rewarding. Now, both of my kids are attending the Art Institute in downtown Portland. Duncan is taking game art and Joel is taking business project management. Drop me a line. russellphotoATcomcastDOTnet For those of you from SWAC (Southwestern Adventist College) the only year I attended was 1978, but I will ALWAYS remember being in the first play on campus, "The Singer", and paraphrasing the life of Christ in a parable. And who could forget "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown!". You gotta love Snoopy. For those from good old NTSU, class of '83, I would love to hear from those in the BCIS group. Who could ever forget COBOL and punched cards? And for a few, who could forget creating a deck of playing cards by key punch for poker? :-> And I remember being one of those who helped put together the first BCIS conference with executives from around the Dallas Texas area at North Texas State University. I think most people would be surprised at my size now. In 1995, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. That disease has changed a lot of how I have had to live my life. I used to play racquetball, but can't because hitting the ball makes my wrist and elbow scream. I also used to ride my bicycle a lot. My knees burn when I tried it six months after my first attack and so that's out. Because...Expand for more
of the drugs I am on, I don't have much of an immune system. While the boys were growing up, they got the sniffles and I got sick. Sometimes really, really sick. But, I still get out and do what I can. I just can't do it for very long now. Like working in the garden or even my photography. Along with a new hobby that most of us old guys take a look at, metal detecting. It's amazing what you can find when searching old home sites and in parks. People lose the dardest things (like gold and silver rings, watches). I even found a hash pipe at a school during one hunt. Watch and monitor is the keyword. Take it in slow, small steps and you can do "more" than you otherwise would be able to. As a result of various drugs and such, I have also put on some (hell -- a lot of weight). Working on getting that off. Wish me luck. TTYL. Update from 2017. Looks like I am going to take early retirement soon. Boys are now 31 and 28 (as of Nov 2017). No weddings for them yet but hopeful for the oldest soon if it all works out with his current girl friend. I tried to get disability because of my rheumatoid arthritis and have been unable to get that. Stress of trying to support software made my joints hurt so bad at work, it was hard to concentrate. Let alone learn all you have to learn in the technical world to keep up. No tears though. God is taking care of us as a family and individually. Living in Hillsboro, Oregon (have been since 2007). Tina, the better half, got her MBA a few years back and has been doing well as a financial analyst. Hope you all are doing well too. Drop me a line. One email that will follow me no matter where/if we move is russellphotoATgmailDOTcom. Drop me a line when you have a chance. UPDATE FROM September 2019. Finally got my disability in December of last year. Rheumatoid arthritis takes a toll on you. We have moved (again) to just outside of Kamiah, Idaho. Have always loved northern Idaho and up here is no different. Also became a grandfather in June of this year (my oldest, Joel, and his wife Rebecca and their son Jessie David Grau). In my spare time, I volunteer for the local church's low power radio station, KMEI-LP, 97.3 FM. When traveling through the area tune in. You'll hear it for around 10 miles around Kamiah. Tina and I celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary in August of this year. Going toward our 40th next year. Wooo hooo. :) Always enjoy hearing from you. The email addresses given are still good. God's blessings to you.
