Russell's Story

STORY TIME - practicing my three to five minute elevator intro. Life lessons experienced/learned/reinforced after graduating Holmen High School: Our past, present and future are both a gift and a blessing - embrace them and get over it. Education is essential to rise above social and economic labels. Family and true friends keep you humble. Titles, positions and resources come and go - stay hungry. We may choose our faith but who we are (by our choices) defines us. Military (Escape from WI): Air Force 1975 - 1979 E1 - E4 Accounting & Finance (military discovered/utilized/refined my Jewish DNA) Air Force Reserve 1981 - 1983 E4 - E5 Auditor Army Reserve 1986 - 1994 E5 - E6 Medical Administration ARNG 1994 - 2005 O1 -O3P Medical Service Corp. 2005 Injured LOD, Retired Captain MS. 2020 Volunteered/served 179 days TDY - Covid mission (no PT) 2021 Volunteered/served 179 days TDY - Covid mission (no PT) Civilian Career - Organizational Development/Leadership In military terms - first thru the breach in the wall (medical support/leadership). No sanctions, suspensions, debarments, exclusions, or ineligibles. Universities, Leadership Roles and Functions: Texas Tech (TTU & TTUHSC) - progressive roles in Accounting/Grant/Contracting/Risk Rotating Clinical department Administrator: Neurology, Anesthesia and Pain (23 level one trauma teaching ORs), Texas A & M - Student Health (45K+ patients, 100K+ annual visits) University of Arizona - Family Medicine, Hospitalist San Diego State - Student Health - Primary Care, dental, ophthalmology X-ray, lab Texas State University - Development of seven clinical training divisions/new campus Claim to fame My primary career role and success, achieving/restoring operations Feds, state, local and boards hold me accountable, they do not play games and get serious very quick. Method - thinking outside the box to succeed in the box or performing small miracles. Accreditation experience...Expand for more
(pre/post) with medical, Rx, Labs, Radiology, etc... My passion is providing Structure, Process and Outcome approaches: Accounting (bookkeeping, accounting and finance - know where the money is) Computers (hardware and software) redesign and implementation Contracting (services and building/renovating facilities). Six sigma and lean application - validating who is blowing smoke. I am not the best maintainer, as I enjoy CQI way too much. I sit either to the right hand of the power person (C suite) or along the wall with the facts, support pay grades way above my social and economic level/position. There are a lot of truly smart people out there, but they need someone to help them interface with the real world. Visual example - herding cats. Education: Military - Enlisted PLDC, BNOC, ANOC Officer Basic and Advanced Officer's courses Civilian - B.B.A., M.S., (Course work for D.B.A) If you have read this far and to help provide personal perspective of how I explain my uniqueness (hiding in plain sight) to the self proclaimed elites I interact with - I tell them I am from rural Wi and talked to cows. If we interact I might appear to be gaining insight as I adjust to the background of the person I am associating with (hiding in plain sight skill). My complements to the real people in the world, who inspire and can invest time and effort in people and see beyond labels. Hope - my one and only son is from four very different cultures and has traveled to Israel and Japan, gaining some insight into his DNA and who he is. Travel and education is a gift that will serve him well as he grows in his personal and professional career, something that I only experienced after escaping Wi. Our children are our legacy. I can not resist - The IRS has not caught on to the fact that I have been deducting my wife as a dependent on my taxes for 42 years, great deprecation schedule. If only I could figure out how to write off her ongoing orthodontist investment.
