Russell's Story
Life
After high school, and a couple of jobs as a TV service technician, I joined the Army and during my tour in Germany, I met my bride and still married after 48 years. After discharge from the Army, I returned to St.Louis and found it was not for me any longer. Got a call from a Army buddy to start a R&R band in Calif. The wife and I was gone in a flash. That time of living and performing in the San Francisco area is unforgettable. I lived in California for seven years,then followed a real job to Allen Park,Michigan for two years, moved back to Calif for another eighteen years. California lost it's magic for me. Too many houses,cars, and way too much black top. I transferred within my company and now call just west of Austin,Texas home for the past 26 years. I decided in 2002 to start enjoying life more than I had, and quit the work force early. Now spend time as a crew member on my son's and grandson's drag racing teams. ...Expand for more
Doing some travel, rip the local lake waters with a jet boat and trying not to get in the way.
Workplace
Employed as a chemist for NASA located at Ames Research Center at Moffet Field,Calif. Provided evaluation of materials to be used on the Apollo heat shield. Later became involved with semiconductor manufacturing in Silicon Valley. Being primarily involved with the manufacturing equipment, I enjoyed extended visits to Switzerland and England as well as throughout the U.S for equipment evaluation, upgrade and procurement. Solving equipment, engineering and people issues every day was a challenge, and every day it was enjoyed.
Military
Basic training at Ft.Knox,Ky.,Fort Belvoir,Va. for advanced training, and the last stop was Boeblingen,Germany. My job description was "Powerman". Supplied electrical power via diesel powered generators to mobile facilities in the field. I would not want to miss a minute of that adventure.
