Rusty's Story

Life: Laurel Ridge: Like many, I was in the first class to go 1st through 7th grade at Laurel Ridge although we did start the year in classrooms at a church. Mrs. Dougherty aka Miss Willowby was my first teacher crush. Besides that Mrs. King made the biggest impact. I cringe today when people use bad grammer or misuse words. Druid Hills High: Loved it and hated to leave in the middle of my Junior year. Had a crush on several lovely ladies, some at the same time, and I refuse to state who they were. I may not be the brightest kid to attend Druid Hills but I'm not stupid. Football was my real passion in High School although baseball filled in most of the non-football time. Moved to Gahanna, Ohio in December, 1967. Gahanna Lincoln High: Tough moving in the middle of the year but spring baseball helped with friends. Summer at the pool and Miller's are two of my good memories. Shaving our heads for August football practice cannot be forgotten. Sharing the OCC crown was great. Going down on campus or to the Poor House in Reynoldsberg was also something to remember. 3.2 Beer - did we ever get drunk? On to West Point for College in July, 1969. West Point: Learned a lot, should have studied more, loved playing football, wish I hadn't had two knee surgeries. Really never got caught doing anything wrong. Had fun and would go there again if had to do over. BS Engineering; MA in Management Systems, Webster University 1986. Army Career: Airborne, Vicenza, Italy, Air Assault, Ft Campbell Kentucky, 2nd Div and 23rd Infantry, Korea, Combat Developments, Ft Leavenworth, Kansas, British Staff College, Camberley, England, teaching at US Army Command and General Staff College, Ft Leavenworth, Kansas, Civil Afairs i...Expand for more
n the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii. Great, fun career. Retired from Army in 1993. Ford Motor Company: Maintenance supervisor at a stamping plant and worked in program management as a program timer. Moved on to working in Commodity Business Planning. this is where you focus on basic commodities such as a seat, a visor, a wheel, etc....and try to reduce the cost by all all means possible except sacrificing quality. In that case a higher quality part trumps a higher cost part. Job update: Still with Ford but have accepted a position in New Model Programs where we build prototypes, and launch new vehicles from the assembly plants. I am currently working on launching the new Ford Raptor truck and the 2011 F150. Married, 2 children (girl and boy), each with 2 children.(1 boy, 3 girls) Facebook = Rusty A Davis Activities: Golf, Detroit Lions football games, Detroit Tigers Baseball games,Red Wings Hockey, visiting the kids and their families, Memorial Day Concert on the lawn of the U.S. Capital, mini reunions with West Point company mates, lots of travel (always ready to go). The last couple of years of been fun with better search engines and a fast DSL and good computer. I have found a ton of "old" friends. Was able to find the organizers of the Druid Hill High School class of 1969 reunion. Several months of Classmates.com communications and other emails ending in attendance at the reunion. It was great fun playing golf and then seeing the others at the dinner at the Druid Hills Country Club. Hope to stay in touch with all I can. Just recently, I was able to link up on Facebook with 2 friends from my Decatur Christian Church Sunday School Class. That communication is just starting but looking forward to passing on more about each of our lives. Will keep searching to find more.
