Ruth's Story
Life
I am thoroughly enjoying being retired from the Texas Public School System. The time to enjoy my five grandchildren is truly a treasure I cherish.
Currently, Stephen and I have sold our home in Houston and have purchased a home in the Austin area. We enjoy being nearer to our mothers, children and grandchildren.

School
My senior year at A & M Consolidated found four Becker siblings in the hallways. My brother, Paul, a junior who currently lives in Houston about 1.5 miles from our former home. Paul earned his Bachelor's and Master's from Sam Houston in Criminology. He currently heads the state's largest probation department.
My sister, Lois, a sophomore who never met a person she didn't like. We lost Lois to cancer Good Friday, 2004. She battled courageously for 12 years, and saw her daughter graduate from college, her older son enter college and her youngest son almost graduate from high school. Lois and her husband chose to make Austin their home.
My sister, Beth, a freshman who had to endure her older sister haze her. Beth recently retired from the Beaumont School District where she served for the past ten years as the Assistant Superintendant in charge of Secondary Schools. Beth is teaching part time f...Expand for more
or Lamar University. Prior to moving to Beaumont, Beth lived in Lubbock and Round Rock.
College
I attended Texas A & M University from Jan. 66 to Aug. 67. Due to my parents move to Austin, I transferred to the Univeristy of Texas where I met my future husband and graduated with a BS in Education in Jan. 69
I attended graduate school at the University of St. Thomas during the time my children were in Junior High and High School. I earned my Masters at the same time my son graduated from high school and then continued my studies to earn my Mid-Management Certificate.
Workplace
During high school and college I worked at Coach Homer Norton's Pancake House on Highway 6. During college in Austin I worked as a cashier at Handy Andy, a grocery store.
I taught in Houston ISD, Austin ISD, CypressFairbanks ISD and Katy ISD. During that time I taught elementary school, math in the middle school, and math in the high school. I finished my employment working for Texas A & M University supervising student teachers in the Houston area. It was always a great deal of fun to drive to College Station for meetings and see how things had changed. Jersey Drive (We lived on Jersey Drive) became Bush Drive and our library at A & M Consolidated Junior High became our meeting room for many events.
