Ruth's Story

I love traveling, vacations, visiting my family, having fun with friends.....I guess you could say...I love life! I had a wonderful career working for the State of Florida as a Program Administrator for 25 years before retiring from the State and taking up a new career with the local hospital, as a billing specialist. It is a total flip of careers but I love it! Who would have ever guessed I would have such a full life, based on how shy and bashful I was in high school. I have 3 grown (wonderful) children and 6 (terrific) grandchildren. My ex-husband and I have a good friendship and have done a good job of sharing our kids and raising them to be what they are today. I guess the teacher I would like most to see again would be my 6th grade teacher, Jack Shay. He had a way of teaching that made me more interested in learning. I got average grades in school, but I loved everything about learning. I believe he passed away. One of his neice's is one of my best friend's. I never did anything wild in school. I was pretty sheltered and my Mother was very hesitant to let me do anything other than attend football games when I was a senior. I loved watching the Mansfield Tygers on the field...anyone remember Henry Weaver? My first crush: My only crush: I had a crush on Jerry Turner from the 4th grade all the way through Graduation. He was never interested in me as anything more than a friend or better yet, I think he felt as if I was his younger sister. I chased that poor dude...it was pitiful...he passed away a few years ago. What a loss to his family and friends. He was really a great person. I hope my friends remember me as being loyal and a lot of fun. I loved to laugh at myself more than anything. I always had friends and we sure had a lot of good times together. I have lost contact with most of my friends and hope to reconnect with some through Classmates. I am truly happy where I am right now, doing what I'm doing. My youngest daughter and my son were Marines and served during the first Gulf War. That ...Expand for more
was scary but I'm very proud of them both. I sometimes wish I had a male companion to do things with, as it would be more fun to share new memories with someone, but I have my kids and grandkids and never get lonesome. The biggest surprise in my life has been in what what I have accomplished, both in my career and personal life. I never dreamed I would ever be this happy. When we divorced after only 4 years of marriage, I was devestated. I thought marriage was supposed to be forever. However, I went on to build my own life and although dated a lot of nice guys over the years, never met another "Mr. Right". Now in looking back, I can see why we were not meant for each other and it was not entirely my husband's fault. I have been able to come to terms with myself. Would have dated more than one person before I got married and had kids. I think that was my biggest downfall but other than that, I wouldn't do anything over. I enjoyed my marriage while it lasted and I am happy with myself. My wierdest job would probably be working for the Ohio State Reformatory for almost 5 years. It was strange at first but I grew to like it. It was very interesting. I was a bookkeeper and handled inmate money. They were actually able to order magazines and anything else they wanted. The biggest controversy while I was there was whether or not to allow Suni Muslems to order prayer rugs and have a private meeting room for their prayers. I don't remember the outcome of that one but believe they were allowed that privilege. I lived in Mansfield, Ohio and graduated in 1962 from Mansfield Senior High. In 1964, as a newlywed, I moved to Whittier. California with my husband...got pregnant with my first child and we moved back to Mansfield in early 1965. In 1975, I moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida so my 3 children, would be closer to their father, and wound up staying. I moved from Ft. Lauderale, to Okeechobee in 1981 and then when all my children graduated, moved to Ft. Pierce in 1988. I currently live and work in Vero Beach.
