Ruth's Story
Life has sure been interesting since graduation. I have had opportunities that I never dreamed possible.
I went to university to get my Bachelor of Arts/ Criminal Justice, taught elementary school for a while, then switched to high school. I had moved to a small community where you didn't have the advantages possible in the big city.
Teaching music was a great experience. Most of the kids I taught couldn't afford to buy or rent instruments so I would buy old ones and fix them up. It was simply amazing to see how children flourish when they have music in their lives.
Then I moved away from BC and auditioned for the opportunity to be an "extra" in the symphony, which is an experience I won't soon forget.
Now I work part-time and have an orchard, which during the spring and summer...Expand for more
keep me busy. Besides growing the usual fruit (apples, cherries, plums, etc) we also grow pomegranates, starfruit, pineapples, and grapes.
I also do a lot of volunteer work, baking for those who struggle to keep food on the table and working with the women's shelter helping those who are affected by domestic abuse. I also rescue animals that are abandoned. Experiences such as these always make me appreciate what I have.
Life is good. The best part of the day is listening to the birds sing, watching the deer grazing on the land, wild rabbits running about, and the groundhogs trying to keep away from my dogs who are just dying to catch them. There is nothing better than living in the country.
My goal in life is always to make a difference in someone's life no matter how small.
