John's Story
After graduation from Conrad, I went to work for Dupont Co in Wilmington. In 1961, I joined the Marines and went through boot camp at Parris Island, NC. During my four years in the Marines, I traveled to Camp Le Juanne, NC, Memphis Navel Air Station,. Tenn, Cherry Pt, NC, Atsugi Navel Air Station, Japan, NAHA, Okinawa and Formasa, Tiawan. Highlights of that period include being a member of the base football team at Atsugi Japan and the Navy/Marine All Star Football team. I resigned from active duty in 1965 and entered Wesley College, played football and graduated in 1967. I married my wife Sharral, (who I met at Wesley) of Marlton NJ, in Dec 1967. Continued my education at Delaware State College in Dover, graduating in 1970 with a degree in Recreation. From 1970-74 I worked with children at the Fraim Boys Club in Wilmington. In 1974 I went to work for the Army as an Assistant Youth Director in Kaiserslautern, GE, received a promotion 1976 and moved to Frankfurt, GE...Expand for more
as the regional director. From there I moved to Ft Knox, KY as the Ass't Recreation Director. 1n 1976 I moved to Ft Leonard Wood, MO as the Base Recreation Director. I left Ft Leonard Wood in 1987 and moved to Stuttgart, GE, Received my last promotion there and, because of the draw-down of US forces in Europe, moved to Seoul, Korea as a Youth Director at the Eighth US Army headquarters. From there I moved to Daegu, Korea as the Family Support Officer. I retired from civil service in 2003 an moved to Orlando, FL. We currently live in the coastal community of New Port Richey, FL, and enjoying the beach lifestyle. My wife and I have been happily married for 46 years and enjoyed our world travels and association with our great military family. We have 3 great children (2 girls and 1 boy), with one living in Orlando, one here in New Port Richey and another living in South Carolina. And 2 grandchildren(1 boy and 1 girl). What a great life this has been...so far.
