Ruth (TX)'s Story

Life June~2006... I was born in King City, California in 1937 and lived there until 1944. I attended kindergarten and 1st grade in King City. I moved with my family to Vega, Texas in June of 1944. I celebrated my 7th birthday shortly after arriving here and have lived in this area (the Texas Panhandle) ever since. My memories of King City are pleasant ones even though it was during World War II. It has been so long since I lived there I can't remember "people" with the exception of a couple of neighborhood children, (Jim and Nellie Frazier). In Texas I attended Vega High School until I graduated in 1955. I have been married to Royce Cretsinger (who I met in school) for 56 years. Except for four years when Royce worked for the city of Amarillo as a city police officer we have lived in Wildorado, Texas which is located 20 miles west of Amarillo, Texas... We plan to retire here. We are still farming and raising cattle. I was a stay at home mom and spent the early years raising our two boys and helping Royce with the farming. Since 1980 I have helped with the farming much more than I ever thought I would or wanted to. I was active in PTA while the boys were still in school. I have been a member of the Wildorado Home Demonstration club since 1974 and have held every office on the local and county level since I joined. I continue...Expand for more
to enjoy the educational and fun activities which are available through the club. We are active in our community and church. We attend the church of Christ in Vega, Tx. We enjoy camping and go every time we have an opportunity. Royce is a Shriner and belongs to a shrine camping unit called the " Mobile Nobles" which schedules 8 camping rallies a year. We are lucky if we can attend 4 of them. We have two sons, Royce Allen (54) and Daniel Wayne (51). We have two grandchildren and two 'step' grandchildren. We also have 8 'step' great grandchildren with another one on the way. We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in April of 2005 with a reception for our relatives and friends. We had a wonderful day and enjoyed all the festivities with our friends and family very much. We co-hosted our 50th class reunion in 2005 which was held on August 12 during the time of the Oldham County Roundup. All but 2 class members were present. Everyone had a great time! It had been 5 years since we had gathered for a reunion and everyone was ready for a good visit. We love living close to where we were raised and think the Panhandle of Texas is the greatest place to live! Come to see us when you are in our area. We live south of Wildorado, Tx. at 1401 South Locust. We would love to see or hear from any and all Longhorn "exes". GO LONGHORNS!!!
