Ruth's Story
I have been living in Laurinburg,NC since 1984. I taught various grade levels in both elementary and middle school. I was a Reading First coach the last six years of my career. I became a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Middle Childhood Generalist in 2000. I got my Masters Degree in Reading Curriculum in 2009.
My oldest son is in the Army. He had his bachelors degree, was married and had his son when he enlisted. He has been in the army almost 18 years. His daughter was born while in Germany.
My grandson is a freshman at Western Carolina University. My granddaughter is a sophomore at Overhills High School. We are of course very proud of both of them. My granddaughter is first in her class right now. She is also on a competition cheer team.
My husband and I been retired for several years. We have done some traveling and gone to our grandchildren's special events while they lived in various states. Our youngest son has his own businesses. We are very proud of the hard worker he has always been....Expand for more
He has worked in the cable business, was a fast food manager and got the highest award when he was only 21 as the best manager with his own store. He has also done fiber optics as well as dish networks. He is very technical minded.
In recent years my husband has health issues including cancer twice. I took care of my father before he passed away with lung cancer. I took care of my mother when she had lymphoma and other health issues. I helped my sister take care of her husband while in the hospital in Chapel Hill for four months and then until he passed away. My husband's sister in Texas fought breast cancer for almost ten years and we went and took care of her for a month until she passed away. I found a new calling from God. I am good at taking care of ill people as well as family members dealing with death. Through the years I have been very active in several churches, including involving myself in the study of God's word. I have become a very calm and accept things as they and make the best of whatever comes.
