Sabrina's Story
Life at 50+
Hi Kids! Yes, most of us have made it to the big 5-0 and on our way. There is no turning back now. Since a year or more ago (when I wanted to start planning a gathering) life has changed. For reasons true to my social consciousness, I walked away from the job at the resort...no worries--it was best and life keeps getting better because of it!
I was and am working so many part time jobs, including freelance writing, so I always have money coming in from different directions (just never enough).
I get to CA as often as I can and want to move back! When I made the decision to do so and as I plan,a lifechange that is quite remarkable began to unfold. As fate would have it, my freelance writing (business profiles and association journal articles) and educational background have led me to the next step, which is teaching.
I am teaching written communication on the technical college level; it is a required class for all disciplines.
Just after I put my condo up for sale the end of December, I go...Expand for more
t the call mid-February that I would be teaching summer school in June. Funding for my position comes from (state and/or federal) grants for displaced workers to improve workforce development.
I am teaching two classes and each one is on a different campus of the college. We are half-way through the summer session and I can hardly believe how wonderful it is. The students are all talented and are looking forward to a better future. I try to give them hope that this economy will not last forever.
The contract for selling my condo is just days from ending. Depending on how long I will be asked to teach, I will remain here...I still want to move back to CA, yet a paying gig is a paying gig. (It doesnt tax my imagination that I enjoy it, either!). I think I'll try FSBO next time.
Have also enjoyed some good music of late...love western swing...Big Sandy, Bill Kirchen, etc., for the rock of it, and I love most genres of jazz for the roll.
Hope you all are doing well. Have a great summer 2009! Sabrina
