Salli Varney:  

My name is Salli Varney but back then it was Hughes. I didn't graduate with my class I left early to go on to night school and gradutated my Junior year. I was in Drama and Chorus. I was shy when I first got to Inglewood but warmed up to some friends. I hung out with Christine Muckle my Freshman year and Lori and Cherie Dean. I met Robin Carrisoza who was 2 years ahead of me and became friends with her through Chorus. I dated Michael Garcia for part of my Sophmore year and then broke up with him and dated John Whalen. John was involved with Drama and we became very close to our Drama teacher Jacque Lacert. I know he is no longer living but miss that guy even though he was a bit eccentric. I also had a good friendship with Dino Valentin but I hung out with different people later and drifted from hanging out with him. I recently found him on Linked In. Very sad he said he didn't remember me. I also really felt a loss when Chere Dean said she didn't want to be around me anymore. I have many memories of High School not all pleasant. My favorite times came out of my connection with Drama and English. Drama holds a special place in my heart because I played a cameo part in the Prime of Ms. Jean Brodie and received best cameo for the performance. I also sang at the Drama Academy Awards that year. I also went to grad night with John Whalen and had a great time. I also developed an amazing friendship with Wailani Durante and had a great summer with her I think it was the summer after my Sophmore year. She was crazy and fun. I also remember that I had a great time in English and always excelled but Math was not my strong suit back then. Because there were not realy programs for people with slight learning disabilities that left me feeling inadequate and kept me away from excelling academically. It wasn't until I had a passing coversation with Dino Valentin that I realized I needed to remove myself from the environment I was in. I had a good foundation at my church but I wasn't strong in my beleifs in school and floundered in them. I lost a good friend Chere Dean because of my hypocrisy. This was when I realized deep down that I wanted to be strong and know what I stood for, I wanted to stop using casual drugs and change who I hung out with and put my life ...Expand for more
