Sally's Story
I'll try to be brief (something I'm not real good at...) I moved from Lafayette to Birmingham, AL after our Junior year. My dad was transferred here by US PIPE. It's true what you've always heard about moving away from everything that's important to a 16 yr old.....I absolutely hated it here! Moved back and forth several times, once to S.F with first husband, and stayed (for now)here with my REAL husband (!) and our amazing daughter, who is 18 now - and just about ready to go to the U of AL on a four year Presidential Scholarship! (I didn't realize the unbelievable importance of a degree, so have made darn sure SHE does!) I've been working for 23 yrs for St Vincent's Health Systems - definitely not my dream job, but it's what I know now and it pays a couple of the bills and keeps us all insured! I hope you guys have a great reunion - they're having one for the school I attended my Senior year, here, but I won't be going to that one, either - I was so miserable about moving away from everyone there that I made no attempt to be a part of high school life here! But life is good, now - we're all healthy (only surgery I've ever had was a C-Section!) - and happy. We lost Mom in January and youngest of the four sisters, Cynthia, 5 years ago, but Dad and my two other sisters are doing great.
A final word....Alabama is NOT as bad as you think! Well, maybe it WAS, back in 1968, but it got over being totally redneck and backward several years ago, and now it's really pretty much just like everywhere else I've been - people are the same everywhere now, I think.
