Sally's Story

February, 2016 Movin' home! (At least part time). Just closed on a house on Grand with a great view- looking forward to bumping into old friends. Life - February, 2012 Still in St. George, Utah rockin' the "green apron" at Starbucks a few hours each week - just enough to satisfy my need for occasional social contact, and to satisfy my addiction to good coffee. I abandoned my catering business a few months ago, but I'm still writing a monthly article for the local paper and dabbling in everything from "hot hula" (not some of my finer moments) to reading everything I can either get my hands on or load onto an ipod and traveling at a minutes notice. A couple of my articles dealt with experiences in Astoria, so if I can find a place to post them (hmmmm..... I see a "memories" tab and will try that), I will do so. Despite being subjected to an admittedly unconventional parenting style - or maybe, now that I think about it... because of just that, my children continue to astound me with their independent thinking and intense interest in everything around them. Tiffany lives in Portland - she sold her medical transcription business and now operates as a freelance dial-a-dictation typist, transcribing everything from medical records to college papers and manuscripts. She is the only person I have ever known who consistently wears the letters off of the keys on her keyboard, and can type faster than I can talk. Michael decided at age 38 to become a lawyer, and didn't see any particular barrier in the fact that he barely had a high school diploma. He finished his bachelors in 2 1/2 years by taking an unbelievable class load and chal...Expand for more
lenging every course he could, and is now finishing his second year of law school at Texas Tech where he landed a great scholarship. I'm really not sure what kind of menace I may have unwittingly unleashed on the world, but come summer 2013, we'll see. Mom (some may remember her as Mrs LeMond -she taught in Astoria for many years) is 93, still lives with me, and is as sweet and gentle as she ever was. She doesn't travel any more, but I have great household help so can still satisfy my itch to find new places; meet new people. We have access to a family cabin on the top of a mountain in Colorado and since it's within a day's drive, it has become my "go to" place when the weather gets to be consistently over 100 in Southern Utah. I'm planning on getting an early start this year, however, and have booked my flights to and from Seattle next month (March, 2012) for a week of haunting the book stores, drinking coffee while watching vendors set up at Pike Place Market, re-acquainting myself with the Freemont Bridge Troll. My husband Bill is a very busy consultant - on the road most weekdays, and encourages me to travel solo, when he can't be with me. All that, and he loves my Mom, too! I don't know who of my AHS classmates might be in the Seattle area, but I'm up for a cup of coffee when I'm there (arriving 3/20, departing 3/24). I just tried posting my telephone and email, but evidently that is not allowed, so I'll check classmates to see if there are any takers. Don't know if anybody really reads these things, but if for no other reason than maintaining my own sense of history, I am going to visit and update more frequently.
