Sally's Story

Dear Friends Not much has changed since I first wrote this story, but I will add a little. I still live in Juneau with my husband, Gordon Harrison. (I was briefly married to Ted Isto right after college and never changed my name again). Gordon and I are fortunate that our daughter now 30 still has a job here. We still get back to Fairbanks briefly each March and September when we fly from Juneau to Fairbanks and out to our cabin in the Kantishna hills for spring skiing or fall berry picking. I just had a new book published by the University of Alaska Press: The Fur Farms of Alaska: Two Centuries of History and A Forgotten Stampede. It has more than 50 photos and was fascinating to research. The silver fox farm between Harding and Birch Lakes was...Expand for more
only one of many. ( In 1930 Alaska had more than 700 farms raising foxes, mink, muskrats, beaver, marten, raccoons, and skunks). A dentist in Fairbanks even tried to raise marmots. If you are curious look at sarahcrawfordisto.com. I am happy that our 50th reunion allowed me to see so many classmates, although there didn't seem to be enough time to talk as much or as long as I wanted to individual people. Perhaps at the 60th... I'm also happy that I heard from several people through Classmates who had stories related to my family memoir of Fairbanks. Good Company is still in print and not due for an updated edition, but I am saving the information in the unlikely case that ever comes to pass. Happy 2012 Sally Crawford (aka Sarah Crawford Isto)
