Sally's Story

Life I was born in Alameda, went to Porter School k-8 and Alameda High freshman through Senior. I went to Felt and Tarrant Business school and got my first job at Sherwin Williams Paint Factory as a Bookkeeper. I married my husband in July of 1957. We've been married for 47 years. We have three kids 2 girls and one boy. We have 6 Grandchildren 5 boys and l girl. We've enjoyed watching them grow up. Now we are both retired and enjoying traveling. And just doing what we want when we want. This retirement is wonderful!! While I was first working at Sherwin Williams I was engaged to be married to one of our schoolmates. Things didn't work out and we parted ways. Soon after I met my husband of 49 and 1/2 years. I continued to work at Sherwin Williams after I was married and had two daughters. I decided to stay home with them in 1965 and I had a childcare service in my home. In 1971 I took a little girl to the Doctors and they asked me if I would be interested in a job at their office. They would train me for three months to be a medical assistant and bookkeeper. At that time I was ready for a change so took the job. I would be off work in time for my children to be home from school. Oh I also had another child right after I quit Sherwin Williams, this time a boy. I loved working at the Doctors office , but in 1976 I had a bout of illness. I kept getting blood ...Expand for more
clots in my legs. When they found out the reason and treated them I was ready for work. I had spent so much time at the Drug Store I was asked if I wanted to work there. And I did. I retired in 1994 due to illness and I can now say I'm a cancer survivor. I first worked on crafts when I retired and eventually we started traveling. We've met some nice friends who are also retired , one is my best friend from High School and we've stayed friends since. Next year 5 couples including my husband and I will be married 50 years. We are all booked for a cruise to Alaska in September. My Life is good and I keep busy with a Bible study group and other friends. I will try to add pictures later, but right now I can"t remember how to do it. Happy Holidays! And may the new year bring everyone health and happiness. School My life at Porter School was a lot of fun! I still remeember most of the kids in my class. I was very shy so I didn't get too crazy in school. My biggest crush was Mike. The teacher that inspired me the most was Mr. Oppenheimer and Miss Stockwell. They were very caring teachers and helped me a lot. We had Physical Education in those days annd I really looked forward to that. Especially when Mr. Otto Rittler came to test all the schools. I had Miss Croft for a P.e. Teacher. If I had it to do all over again I would. Sally Davies Jantzen
