Sally's Story
I grew up in Arverne,in the 50's it's was a pretty nice place at the time. My parents
had converted their houses to rentals for the people that ran away from the city
to cool off for the summer months. (before air conditioning, it would work like this.
if you remember the husbands would sacrifice themselves so their wives and
children could be cool for the summer and they would be lucky enough to be
able to come out on weekends. Then came the winter months back to normal
living for us we could spread out and live in all of the rooms in the house no squeezing together.
I lived in the Rockaways from eight years old until I was almost 19. I married as
so many of the girls did in those years, this marriage did not last. At age 22 I had
my first child a girl and my second a yea...Expand for more
r later, got divorced and wound up in Fl.
I have been here ever since which is about 45 or 46 years ago. I've been married to my present husband for the last 43 years and we had two additional children,my children were so young when they came to Florida and when I met my present husband that it was easy for him to get involved in their lives, he adopted them soon after we were married, Now for the rest of the story we lived in the Fort Lauderdale area about forty years and five years ago we decided to move to the central part of the state, we are about a hour and fifteen minutes from disney (mickey mouses house) it's a big place for retirees call The Villages lots of golf and recreation of all kind you name a club we've got it and if not you can start one. Love living here.
