Sally's Story
I graduated from Carrick in 1979 and started working as a salesclerk at Gimbels South Hills Village. After realizing that I really shouldn't have cut so many typing classes, I started Sawyer School downtown so I could learn to type and get a job. Once completed, I started working for Associated Builders and Contractors. That's where I was introduced to my husband. I met my husband David on a blind date. We were married on St. Patrick's Day in 1984. He runs and operates both of our businesses. I moved from ABC to the Federal Bankruptcy Court and worked there until my son David was born. Then I took a few years off and raised my children. I had Doug in the middle there. When David was 10, I got a job at Duquesne University in the Journalism and Multimedia Arts Department. My children graduated from there. David, with a BA and an MS and Doug with a BA. After they graduated, I decided I wanted a change of scenery and I went to work for Robert Morris University, but decided that I really wanted to just stay home. I work for our business (DL Richie Paint'n Decorating) part time. David III joined the Peace Corps and was in the Dominican Republic where he met his wife Keeton. They spend 5 years volunteering and teaching and this past summer relocated and now live in Seoul Korea, where they should be for another year and a half. Just happens that next week I'...Expand for more
ll be visiting and traveling and visiting with them for about a month, I'm going to start with Hong Kong then off to Seoul and I will be just holding and squeezing my Little Bernie Kate for as many times as she will let me. Doug and Lyndsai just moved back from Durham NC. He is now 3rd generation in our family run business. 53 years in business is a nice long time.
I have a lot of things that I was able to cross off my bucket list. I learned how to ride a motorcycle when I was 48, I skydived on my 50th birthday, I've scuba, snuba and snorkeled off the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans, I've hiked to the top of Diamond Head in Hawaii and I've touched a worm. haha. my next thing is that I want to touch a snake. I don't have to hold one, I just want to pet one. I don't care if its a garden snake (preferably) or a rattler, I just want to touch one.
Well that's been me in a nutshell. I'll add some more pictures when I find them. Until then........
Love Sally.
