Sally's Story

My Dad was transferred from Phalsburg AFB in France to George AFB in California in 1963. I attended Marianna Elementary school for the 3rd-6th grade. Some of my friends were Carlene Cosentino, Ernest Cervantes, Ricky Butters, Maureen ?, and others I can see their faces, but can't remember names. We left Apple Valley and moved to George AFB in the summer of 1965. We lived on Texas St. I think 228. Our back faced the desert. We lived near Steve Wilson, Steve Vargas, Ken and Tim Hodson and Denise Lawson. It was such a great childhood. I started at Hook Jr. High in the 7th grade. I had so many great friends there. Sheila Coker, Sandy Smith, Donna Wright, Maurice Lavoie, Mike Heden. Ricky Bragg. Leona?. Patty Gomez, I'm sure more will come to mind as I keep trying to remember. My Dad went to Thailand so we moved off base to Adelanto. I lived on Bellflower St. near Becky jackson? Alan Chamberlain, Jeff scarpa, Pat?B Terry Yates, Donna Cruz. I loved that little town. We were always barefooted and in blue jeans, walking across the highway to Garrets or the post office. Trying to walk or run from shadow to shadow when the sun was heating the road and sand too hot for our feet.I left California for Missouri in the first quarter of my sophmore year at Victor Valley, attended school in Scott city, in my Grandparent Dovers home in Illmo. Debbie Zimmerman, Debbie Held? Connie Dodge, Mike Braun. I finished my Sophmore year at Johnson high School, Japan. Shirley North, Charlie North, Steve Von Rembow, Ronnie, Dora, Connie, Farin, so many more. I worked at the Top 5 club at Yokota. Dad's wing was moved to Okinawa the summer between my Jr and Sr year. I was heart broken. My parents had promised I would finish school at Johnson of course we know they couldn't do anything about it, but I was still mad. Like some one else mentioned, we rode the trains everywhere. Can you imagine letting your kids loose like that? We were living in a great time. I graduated from Kubasaki HS in 1972. really enjoyed our experiences there too but I didn't get into school. I just finished up. All those extra credits from the mod system and Johnson, I only had to take 1 government course my last semester. I worked at the officers club at Kadena. We headed back to the States in 1973. We were there for the reversion of Okinawa back to the Japanese. Things changed so rapidly. Suddenly the streets were full of Japanese tourists in their summer kimonos. The Okinawans were very westernized. It felt like a half way house between Japan and the States. The Okinawans were more American than Japanese. The change was unsettling. We moved to Las Vegas which I have lived eversince. I have two sons Jeremy D'Amour, and Will King. I have been divorced twice, spent the last 10 years raising my kids. I have a 10 year old grand daughter, Star. She is just wonderful! My youngest son has just started College at University of North Texas. He is a music major, performing and composition. He plays violin. He gets it from his dad who is a professional Trumpet player here in Vegas. Most recently with Wayne Newton, and Terry Fator. My older son Jeremy is studying here in Las Vegas, education, between raising his daughter and making music. I have worked the last 25 years at the California Hotel in reservations. I was in a very serious car accident in August 27th 2001. I watched the attack on the twin towers in a hospital bed. I could not imagine the pain those people must have been in, while I lay in a bed under strong pain medication. I have made a pretty good recovery, but it has been a long trip. I am grateful for my every day with my family. I lost one of my oldest friends to breast cancer the beginning of Sept. Please everyone keep up on your exams. Well, talk about a run on paragraph! If any one knows me, please help remind me. If you know any of my friends or know how to get in touch with them, please let me know. Or if you just want to talk about the past, I'd love to hear from you, Sally

Here's my "masterpiece". Had so much fun with my coworkers. We should try Star's Chalk Couture. It would be simpler.

Is it just me, or does John Burke, on PBS's Outdoor Nevada, remind you of one of my handsome brothers, Russ, Cheri Sprenger?
Love the little faces. Interesting way to consolidate them all
Happy's Father's day, Dad. The best dad I could have gotten, if I asked for you. Got you without having to ask. Love you Dad.
