Sam's Story
So, what has Sam Bickel, the long haired grad of '73 been doing since graduation day? Well, I'll tell you. After graduation I partied for a couple of months (seemed like the norm in those days) before leaving to Phoenix with my school buddy Dick York (not the dude from Bewitched), to go to school. That didn't work, so I headed home. For the next couple of years I floated around until I asked my friend Bob to get me a job at XETV Ch 6, where he worked. He told me to come in the next day to apply for the opening as a messenger. I did and got the job. 30 years later I'm still working in broadcasting. I moved out of SD back in '84 to work in Dallas and from there to San Antonio for about 10 yrs. San Antonio was a cool city to live but Dallas not so much. I met my wife in SA and both my boys were born there. So the stay there was good. I moved back in '96 to work at KSWB as Program Director. That was a good five years until I moved to Denver. I work for Starz Entertainment as Executive Director in charge of Program and Promotion Scheduling for the 7 Encore Movie Channels. Colorado is great! Great mountains, riding, camping and assorted outdoor activities. That's the short version.
