Sam's Story

Hi all, Yep I'm still kickin' ! I signed up for Classmates a long time ago but never posted any information. I don't do "social media" as such, but I'm making an exception here. I plan to be the last person on the planet to sign up for Facebook. Just my preference. I went to Foothill College after graduation and went to work for Kiklok Corp. in Redwood City building equipment for the food industry. I spent 20 years there building and then installing and servicing the equipment all over North America. In 1982 I went to work for Peco Controls Corp. in Milpitas and am still working for them. We build quality control equipment for the food, beer and beverage industry consisting mainly of fill level monitors, vacuum monitoring systems and X-ray inspection devices for contaminant detection. I am the Sr. Application Engineer, field service support and R&D engineer. I have one son (50) and one daughter (48) and three grandchildren all living in Gilroy. My wife, Dianna and I bought a ranch (210 acres) in Southeast Missouri in the middle of the Mark Twain National Forest in 2010 for our retirement. The ranch is surrounded by National Forest land, about 1.5 million acres! We are "off the grid" as they say, 28 miles from the nearest loaf of bread in a Walmart! We joined LifeFlight, a helicopter service for emergency medical care. We have electricity (and a backup generator), propane gas, Satellite entertainment and Internet, 2 drilled water wells and one Artesian well. We have LOTS of Whitetail deer, Turkeys and small game. We also h...Expand for more
ave some black bears, bobcats and some say Mountain Lions that I have yet to see. The country is beautiful. More stars than you can imagine, clean air and we have FOUR seasons. We are in Southern Missouri, just North of the Ozarks, so we only get a foot or so of snow in Winter. I am a private pilot so I am looking at buying a Piper Cub with Tundra tires so I can get in and out a little quicker. I have a 20 acre pasture I can land on. Not a good plane for long trips but it serves a purpose and is fun to fly. Dianna and I moved from Santa Clara to Orangevale, just outside Folsom near Sacramento in 2000. The housing debacle forced us to stay in California longer than planned to recover some of our "nest egg" in real estate. We moved out here permanently last March, just after she was diagnosed with brain cancer. I lost her in July so I went back to work with Peco travelling and working from home. I come to California occasionally for training, meetings etc., but most of the time I am home or on the road. I may have to rethink my position on social media being alone out here now. I do enjoy the solitude, to a point. Travelling and work keeps me in touch with people but, I miss my wife more than anyone can imagine. I will probably monitor this site more now that I have some time. I don't know how many of our class are still out there, but losing Dianna reminded me of our mortality. It has been a long time since High School. It'll be interesting to see who responds and hear their stories. Still not going on Facebook !!! LOL!
