Sam's Story
Life
After h/s I went to Indiana Buisness College for about a year and a half. Basically I went there to stay out of Viet Nam. But after a year and a half I decided getting shot at was better than more schooling, lol. So within a week I was called up for my physical. I flunked it (YEA!!). So then I started working for Indiana Bell. Of coarse I flunked their physical too, but after more extensive test I proved to them nothing was wrong (shhhh, dont tell the Army, lol). Anyway I started with Indiana Bell on August 26, 1968. My main passion was water skiing and chasing girls till I was 26, when I finally met my wife. I retired from Indiana Bell (now called Ameritech or SBC) on August 26, 1998 (to the day, 30 years later) I now just do odd jobs for people. I own a couple of small business' (mowing yards, pushing snow, repairing small engines, upholstery, and landscaping) I've been married now for 28 years. We had no kids of our own, but my wife (3 years older than me) had been married for 10 years before we met and she had 2 boys from that marriage. About 3 years ago I found a daughter (now 33 years old) that I found that had been born from one of the "special" girlfriends I had while in college. This is one of the things I wish I could change. Not that my daughter hadn't ever been born, but that I had done her mother "right". Her mother was very special to me, but I was far from being ready to be married. (Those without sin can cast the first stone :o) ). I also had other special friends I would like to hear from again (if I haven't already). I would like to hear from such people as Nancy Mcfarrin, Judy Leo, Debbie Brown, Patty Wagner, Debbie Harper, Mary Thompson, Debb...Expand for more
ie White, Linda Baumer, Petra Wilkinwich, Carolyn Runyan, Carolyn Mitchel and anyone else from my past, just to see how their lives turned out. Life is a funny thing. If only a person had more than one life time to see how things would turn out, if I took diferent roads where would I be now?
School
Liked Sports and girls, lol. If I had a wish it would read like this. I would like to have 2 chances at high school. 1st chance would be almost like the one I did. Then I would like to "rewind" and go back and concentrate solely on wrestling and football. I think I might of had the talent for these sports , but the desire wasn't as focused as I could of had. Oh well, it was fun. They ought to make a law you could go to high school without having to take classes. Always slowed me up on things I really wanted to do, lol
College
Now talk about a waste of time. Only good thing was kept me out of Viet Nam and I met a lot of lovely girls. So if I was to do that over I wouldn't have changed a thing.
Workplace
First 20 years was the best time in my life. Last 10 years was the worst. Indiana Bell (Ameritech), at first treated you like a valuable part of the company. Then with the "New Generation" of college kids becoming supervisors, the company treated you like something you would dig out of a sewer pipe. Funny though, I tried to do my best under both situations. Although it was more satisfying the 1st 20 years, than the last 10. Just thank God I was finacially able to retire after 30 years. I still talk to those that I used to work with that still work there and I am told it's worse now than it was when I retired and continually is getting worse, if thats possible, lol
