Sam's Story

Life Hello! This is Sam St-Phard. Welcome to my bio. I can't believe it's been almost 25 years since I crossed that stage and received my diploma from Slidell High. I will never, ever forget my senior year (Fall 1981 - Spring 1982). It was the best scholastic year of my life! After graduating from Slidell High I was awarded a full academic scholarship to Centenary College in Shreveport, LA. They created an "Academic" package because of my skills as a soccer player. While I was at Slidell High, I was a member of a "select" soccer team called "The Cobras". My junior year I was selected All-State and was the second ranked player in Louisiana. I was invited to try-out for the U.S. Under 18 Junior National Team and had a miserable showing.......needless to say I did not make the team. At the time, I was overconfident, and overweight(5'11" 175lbs.). So I changed my attitude and trained hard so that I would not embarass myself or the State of Louisiana if I should be invited to try-out for the Junior National Soccer team again. My senior year I made the All-State Soccer team for the second consecutive time, but this time I was the number one ranked soccer player in the State. As a result, I was honored to receive another invitation to try-out for the Under 19 US Junior National Soccer Team. This time I did not take my training lightly. I worked very hard in the hot Louisiana sun(sometimes in 100 degree temperatures and 100% humidity!). By the time we(The 1982 Louisiana All-State Soccer Team) reached Chapel Hill, NC(site of the National Team Soccer Try-outs) I was 5'11" 162lbs. and, as you can imagine, far more determined to succeed. To make a long story short, although I had a much better try-out and got many offers from Colleges and Universities, who the previous year wouldn't even sneeze in my direction, I was not selected to represent our great country on the soccer fields of the world. Dissapointed? Devastated is more like it. Something good did come of that try-out, ...Expand for more
however, and it was the offer to play soccer for Centenary College, whose Head Coach also was the Louisiana All-State Soccer Team Head Coach(Enos Russell). I arrived at Centenary in the Fall of 1982(along with 7 other teammates from the LA All-State Soccer Team, Coach Russell was doing some serious recruiting!). Centenary had gone 3-12 the previous season and they were the campus joke! Our starting line up my freshman year consisted of 9 freshmen 1 sophomore and 1 junior. We started the season 10-0 and all of a sudden we were the BMOC's(Big Men On Campus). There was no football team at Centenary so we were it on Saturdays, and you can bet after a 10-0 start people were showing up at games, heck even the President of the College began attending Games!!! We eventually finished the season 11-3-1 and set the record for the biggest single season turn around in NCAA Div.1 Soccer history. Not only that but the largest Soccer Publication in America ranked Centenary 10th in the Midwest Region of the US! Centenary had graduated Robert Parrish(Boston Celtics) and Hal Sutton(PGA Golfer), but now they were on the National radar for SOCCER!! Not bad for a college of 1200 students(not a misprint, 1200). Well the dream faded quickly, when Coach Russell moved to Texas. My soccer career ended 2 years later with an inoperable quadricep injury, and I transferred to the Univ. of Maryland to study Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing. I began my sales career in 1987, got married in 1992, had my first son in 1994 and my second son in 1997. I have been seperated since 2004 and will be divorced sometime in 2007. At the beginning of 2006 I began my own Company Called DIMARK LLC(Diversified Marketing Group, LLC). Things are going much better then planned. I am on pace to make six figures in my first year! Best of all I am my own boss. I got tired of working to make someone else rich. As a single Dad, my boys come 1st, I have lots of time for them now. Contact me anytime.
