Samantha's Story
When my family moved to California my mother had me use my father's last name, Irvin for school, not Woods. That was the beginning of my difficult transition here. At Newcomb and Millikan, I was quiet and unhappy. I left Millikan in '85 to have the most wonderful daughter named Melana. Two years later, I had my son Kelly. He had special needs and that has been the most difficult journey our family has had. But I have learned that when things get rough remember that God doesn't give you anything that you can't handle. unteered at their school two hours a day! That's probably because I didn't finish my own school, lol. So even though I had my GED, it was a while before I could further my education. Now they are grown and gone and now I'm putting time into me! I work for LA Unified School district, teaching disabled students in the most dangerous part of LA. I've learned that as people we often see things worse than they really are. Just keep in mind that whatever situation is causing you grief, it will pass. I'm enjoying life and each day is a new opportunity to make a positive difference! Life is good!
