Samra's Story
Life
After I graduated from The University of Kentucky I worked at a TV station in Lexington for a few months, then went to Indianapolis where I worked for Channel 13 there, was active in Civic Theatre, and met my husband Bill. After we were married we went to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for 3 years which was a fabulous experience--you hear all these terrible things about it but it was great. We also got to travel a lot while we were there and went to parts of Africa, Asia and Europe. When we returned in 1985 we lived in Plano, TX, north of Dallas for 2 years and I got my master's degree in Journalism from The University of North Texas. Then we were transferred to Houston in 1987 and lived there until late 2005. My husband is a human resources professional who has done work for NASA, as well as the oil and gas industry, and I worked in public relations & government relations for a big energy company in Houston before our recent move to North Texas---we're living in Denton, which is north of Dallas and Fort Worth, and fixing up this neat old house we inherited. rth Texas. I'm on a couple of non-profit boards and we have a lot of hobbies. We still like to travel and are trying to see as much of Mexico and South America as we can because we love it and it's close (and cheap!). I spent the summer of 2008 in Guanajuato, Mexico going to school. It's my favorite place in Mexico. We have also been on several mission trips to Patzun, Guatemala, which is in the western highlands not far from lake Atitlan. All totaled, I've been to 23 countries so far. I hardly ever go back to Winchester because everybody I knew well there has moved away or passed on. My parents moved to Florida to retire and both are buried there. I went to the GRC classes of '71--'74 reunion and it was great, but we needed more people there. Anybody who hesitates to go to their reunion because they're worried about how they look or how successful they are or aren't should cast off all those "demons" from adolescence and go. Life's too short not to reconnect with old friends. I'm on Facebook and Twitter, and have a blog called "The View from Little D." You can Google it, since Classmates won't allow links in bios.
