Sandie's Story

My life story after high school is not, I'm sure, as exciting as the majority of my classmates so if it gets tooooo boring go ahead and exit any time. You won't hurt my feelings. :) I must admit I've had a very good life, thanks to family and friends that I cherish. As most of my friends know I didn't finish high school until later, as I quit school to get married and start a family. I've been married for 46 years to the same great guy, Jim Martin and we have one son, Jim Jr. and a beautiful daughter-in-law who has given us three step grandchildren and three great grandkids. Yep, I'm a great-granny and I love it! I went on later to finish my education. I worked for Barstow Unified School District in their Special Ed. program and also worked many years for my brother, Rick, as office manager for his businesses, Hendley's Towing, Rick's Septic Service and Silver Valley Disposal. Most of you probably know that we lost Rick in 1997 to Lou Gehrigs disease. He was such a special brother and such a special friend. I promised him I wouldn't let his memory be forgotten so I just wanted to bring his memory back to any of you that knew him. I do the "WALK TO DEFEAT ALS" every April in his memory. ALS is Lou Gehrigs - Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Would anyone like to make a small donation? Every dollar counts. :) My husband...Expand for more
and I retired two years ago and spend time fishing the Sierras and exploring the desert and mountains with family and friends. Now for the bad news! Unfortunately, I am still here in Yermo!! It was such a nice clean little town when we were growing up, but it's such a sad site today. Hey!!! It is the home of the first "DEL TACO"!! That should count for something. Like I said, my life has been good. I have climbed many a mountain and hiked many a trail. I have snorkeled the blue waters of Hawaii and walked on the sands of Wakiki. I have water skied the Colorado and snow skied Mammoth. I have ridden the rapids of the Kern River and even caught a whopper or two. I have flown on an aqua plane, jet, bi-plane and helicopter, and have cruised to the Rivera. I have ridden my own horses, milked a few cows and slopped a few pigs, thanks to my brother and dad. WHAT MORE COULD A GIRL ASK FOR?? Well, there it is. If I have any more excitement in my life I'll keep you all posted. Truthfully, except for losing my brother and then his youngest daughter in 2005 I have been very blessed. And I thank the great Lord above for that! To any of you that actually finished reading this, I say thank you, hang in there and take care. Let's keep in touch through Classmates or Facebook. Have a great day! Sandie 2/28/2010
