Sandra's Story

Life At nearly 42, I'd have to say that I feel the best is yet to be. Now I have to convince myself of it! I am the proud Mother of a wonderful 12 year old (going on 32) son. He's a very warm, caring, intelligent old soul. At least his Father and I did something right! So, we divorced upon completion of that project! Ha ha. I don't know, maybe after 11 years of marriage we decided to grow up, and move on and so we did. It wasn't an easy decision by any means, but now I'm seeing that it was a good one. After graduation and one year at U.W. Richland, I left college behind to persue a career as lead singer in a rock band. After killing many more brain cells than neccessary, over a 3 year stint decided to give it up to be married. (This was the practice round.) It was at this time that I tried my hand at running my own Dance School. It was tough in the beginning, but well worth it and I truly enjoyed it. All of it. With 3 locations and roughly 200 students it seemed to be just what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. O.K., now.... let me stop here to introduce my current husband, Scott. First time I layed eyes on him I knew there would be more that lies ahead. We first met the summer between 7th and 8th grade. He spent the summer with a family who had cute sons and a cabin near my parents cabin in Avoca. After years of coming in and out of my life, we connected again in the early 80's while we were both in bands around the Platteville area. Scott played guitar with a band called RPM and I sang in a band called Rypt. Everyone in the circuit knew one another and our paths often would cross. Then one evening we had a battle of the bands competition in Stitzer and I fell madly in love with him and although he was taken at the time, memories never left me. Around the time of my divorce, Scott wandered back into my life and we ended up "dating". One thing lead to another (it usually d...Expand for more
oes) and we were married on December 27th of 1995. Scott's in the wine business. He started out in his career in Madison and fortunatley, he is really good at what he does. In the spring of 2000, he was offered a job promotion/transfer to run the Milwaukee Region as Wine Manager for the distributorship he works for. So, he asked me to consider the move. This would mean me leaving my dance business behind and following his career move. After 22 years of running my own studio, I taught for other peoples studios and even the local Recreation Department but it's just not the same as having your own place. In 2000 I was voted President of the National Association of Dance and Affiliated Arts organization of Wisconsin so that keeps my roots firmly planted in the dance world even though I'm not in the day to day routine of teaching and classes. I teach for our workshops and conventions around the state 4 or 5 times a year and I am now working for a building company out of Pewaukee, WI. I am learning about specs, contracts, blue prints and subcontractors. I enjoy being home evenings with my family, which never happens when you're running a dance school and watching my son do his homework because lord knows I could never help him with it! ha ha... He's a very musical child who enjoys being in school plays, musicals, still dances and takes guitar and voice lessons and aspires to have his own rock band one day soon. Who knows? Maybe he'll let me be his manager! At the least I'm sure another groupie would be useful. So, we've all made it through the transition of relocating and really have the best of both worlds, being Madison and Milwaukee, living nearly smack dab in between. Land of the lakes they call it. We enjoy boating and fishing and all the water sports that come along with it. I hope other Riverdale graduates are happy and doing well and I'd love to hear from you. So, keep in touch!
