Sandra's Story
Life update as of May 2021
i was married the first time for 15 years - 10 of them were amazing! . After a little less than 10 years as a single mother I got married again on July 11 2009! I have 2 children and 3 step children plus families! The day I got married I acquired 9 grandchildren!! My natural children are a son and a granddaughter who live in Puyallup, WA. ( my first grandchild on my side but my 10th altogether) My daughter graduated Boise State University and now lives and works near Boise, ID! She is getting married May of 2020 of course this was COVID postponed and she finally got married recently and her husband is a police officer. After 16 years in Washington state we just moved to Mesquite, NV just an hour from Vegas and we LOVE it!! We love to travel. Workplace
I do a lot of volunteer work!! I work with my church, I run Mesquite CERT (Community Emergency Response Team). I also volunteer at our local community play house and theater. I volunteer with Via de Cristo a Christian retreat group, the American Legion and other veterans groups , Blaze , a women empowerment leadership group ,and Women in the Fire Service organization. Yes I like to stay busy! I love to hike and walk several miles every day!
Military
I joined the military back in 1981 and became a firefighter. I made Fire Chief in 1998, the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, I was the first female Fire Chief in the Air Force. It was challenging but a great career and I loved it. I retired from the military in October of 2007. I maintained a civilian career in the fire service and retired as an Assistant Chief. I love the fire service and am grateful to stay involved!
