Sandra's Story

I was one of the "Rebel Yell" artists at Nicholls from 1965-67. I attended Holy Trinity grade school on Royal St. and then Colton Jr high. I grew up on the corner of Elysisan Fields and Royal St. in the house that Tennessee Williams portrayed in his novel "A Streetcar Named Desire". Looking back, I think my mom somewhat reminded me of "Stella". During high school I also enrolled in art classes at night at Delgado and continued during the summers hoping to pursue a commercial art career. Upon HS graduation, I attended UNO for a year before marrying Richard Davis. I had a talent for not only drawing but also singing and unfortuantley my blue collar family just did not know how to offer any guidance in those areas nor could understand how anyone could make a living with their talents. If I could live my life over, had the opportunities, and as they say....know what I know now, I would have pursued training and a career in classical music. Since then, I studied voice for several years and have put that talent to use at Kenners Rivertown Rep in the Neil Simon play, "Little Me" and in Dec. 2009 as "the teacher" in "The Gospel According to Scrooge" in Little Rock, AR for the second year. I worked for a government contractor for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in Elmwood for over 15 years which...Expand for more
opened the door for my current position in compliance security at Acxiom Corporation in AR. I was married to another "Rebel", Richard Davis, who was in the graduating class of '66. We were married for 39 years until he passed away on April 28, 2009 just 4-days after our anniversary. I miss him a lot and I'm not sure how to live this single life. Unfortunately, my husband Richard was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, cancer of the bone marrow, just before Katrina. After much research, we found that the best treatment option for him would be to enroll in a clinical trial at the UAMS Cancer Research facility in Little Rock, AR. After two-stem cell transplants Richard went into remission but had many health issues to deal with. We have one wonderful son, Dustin, who just turned 20 so I'm not expecting any grandchildren any time soon. Dustin, is a sophomore at UCA in Conway, AR and is the light of my life. I'm blessed to have a wonderful close relationship with Christ who has seen me through a lot of trials in my journey from St. Claude Ave in NOLA to Little Rock, AR. If you don't know Him.....just tell Him that I sent you and start a conversation! My motto is the scripture, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Life is a journey and I look forward to my next adventure!
