Sandra's Story
After WTHS, I went to MSU and graduated in '78 with a BS in Wildlife Biology. From there, I went to the the University of Oklahoma for a Master of Science in Zoology. I really disliked the place -- most unfriendly people I ever met. I then went to the University of Kansas (ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK!) where I earned a Master of Philosophy and a Ph.D. in biology (officially Systematics and Ecology). When nearing completion of my Ph.D., I was offered and accepted an Air Force scholarship to medical school.
I attended KU's med school in Kansas City and graduated in 1990 (also got married, had 2 kids -- one of whom was diagnosed with ...Expand for more
Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism -- and got divorced during med school). I did my internship in Kalamazoo, and did a residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland in Radiation Oncology, which I completed in 1994. Next, I served in the active duty Air Force (first in Biloxi, MS, then at Wright-Pattersonn AFB in Dayton, OH) and became happily remarried.
I re-entered civilian life in 2005, and I am currently working at a hospital-based cancer center in Lima, OH. My son recently started college, and plans to be the next Spielberg. Yes, I have more degrees than a thermometer. Life is good, but I have to drive way too much.
