Sandra's Story
Life
My Spouse
He used to live across the street. I always did hang out with the older guys :O)
My Pets
I have a pit bull, a short haired German pointer and a big black cat.
My Kids
Both my kids were premies, weighing in at 2 lb 12 oz and 1 lb 10 oz respectively. My daughter had a rough beginning with a g-tube and broviac for 2 years but is wonderfully healthy now. Both compete in track. My son won the gold medal at the Westminster Spring Tune Up when he was 6 and the silver when he was 7. His best event is the mile, which he runs in 8:38. My daughter prefers the quarter mile. Both are in karate, my son is a orange belt, daughter is a purple belt. Both are in weapons training and sparring and were invited to go to China as ambassadors for the United States and to train at the Shaolin Temple. Regretfully, due to the world situation, the trip was cancelled. Hopefully, it will be rescheduled at a later date. They earned the $8,000 needed for the trip and put it safely into a CD. I homeschool both kids and love every minute I have with them! I am very fortunate and wouldn't change a thing about my life!
Ramon is now a first dan black belt in taekwondo and Emily is a red belt. Both compete internationally and have qualified for the Junior Olympics. They also both swim.
College
When I finished high school, I thought I was done and I was ecstatic! Then Mr. Matula told me he had started the application process for me to get a scholarship. I won the Westminster Elks Scholarship and started my college life at Community College of Denver. I was elected to the Student Council as Clubs and Organizations Officer, chaired the Inter-Club Council, se...Expand for more
rved on the finance committe and the student activities committee. I graduated summa cum laude with an Associate in Community and Social Services and double minors in sociology and psychology. I won another scholarship and transferred to the University of Denver. I didn't care for it, so I transferred back to Metropolitan State College. I prefer an urban setting. At Metro I earned my bachelor degree in Criminal Justice with an emphasis on Youth Advocacy.
Workplace
The first job I had was cleaning office buildings with Red Sands. Later on that experience came in handy when I cleaned new construction homes. I worked as a peer counselor at Metropolitan State College and I had several jobs at the Rocky Mountain News first as a judge for the football contest, then in Customer Service and finally as secretary for the downtown office. I went to Lutheran Medical Center for better pay, first as the receptionist for the credit department, then as a collector. I moved with my boss to American Banco. I worked part time for Pepsi until my son was born. My lastest addition to my resume is homeschool teacher for two very bright and willing students, my kids Ramon and Emily and I anticipate this job lasting approximately 15 more years until I hand them over to a university!
Last year my husband got laid off after ten years with Lockheed Martin and we decided to start our own business, One Way Or Another Remodeling. I am in charge of all the office work, payroll, billing, estimates, and marketing. Ramon and Emily both work as well, Ramon on site and Emily in marketing and office. So far we are doing great and can hardly keep up with business, which is 90% referrals.
