Sandra's Story

I hope people remember me as a nice and friendly person who tried to get to know everyone and not just the popular kids. The worst thing I ever did in HS was ditch class in my senior year. BTW, I am responding to a prompted line of questions from Classmates.com...so here it goes... How do I prepare for work or a project? If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have direction/plan, A game on, focused and to be able to deal with the day-to-day issues that business brings. What did I want to be when I grew up? Well let's see, I always wanted to be a business owner and wife and mother. And that is exactly what I did. What do I like to do.....? I swim about 10 miles a week, I enjoy cooking and that is why I try and swim 10 miles per week. I also love to read and listen to music which is very relaxing to me. Or, just chill with family unless they are causing the steam that I need to blow off! As far as hobbies, I have written some middle grade chapter books and make jewelry. My heroes of late are Randy Pauch, Bill Clinton, John Lennon and Bill Maher. I have always lived in Southern California close to the beach. The air is so clean at the beach and summers are much cooler near the coast. It has been a great place to raise my boys. Fantastic schools and waves for surfing and swimming. There are two people from my high school days who I wish were still with us. They are, Mr. Bessie, my senior history teacher and Mr. Kermode. They were excellent teachers and role models who always encouraged me. Unfortunelatly, they passed away.. Do I watch TV? Loved the Olympics, especially, the swimming, volleyball and soccer. Do I watch Reality TV? I sometimes watch The Bachelor/Bachelorette and Project Runway. I also watch when I can, American Idol (who doesn't love to see Paula and Simon fight)? Politcally, I am obsessed with the last 8 years of blundering, corporate greed politics and hope that were are on the path to change, hope and prosperity. Please stop corporate socialism! Healthcare reform now! I guess my biggest surprise after so many years, is that raising children has sometimes been a challenge. Even though you raise them, they are so their own people who cannot be exactly what we had often fantasized them to be. Unconditional love is powerful and necessary when raising children. I also had my children late in life, the first at 32 and the second at 43. I hope I live long enough to enjoy my grandchildren. Let's see, if I could improve my home? I'd remodel the kids bathroom and add on a craft, reading room just for me. My dream home would be about 500 sq ft larger than it is now.. How have I changed?? I think that it is important to chill out more and not to sweat the small stuff. Who would I like to reconnect with from HS? Like I said, there were a few good teachers at Wilson but I loved Mr. Bessie's class (he was a riot) and wish he were still here with us. He passed away way too young and before his time. I also loved talking to Mr. Kermode who was always encouraging me and would discuss world issues at our level. I miss both of them. If I won $100 million, I'd give 50 mil to Habitat for Humanity and 20 million of it to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Then,I wo...Expand for more
uld spend the rest on family, some friends and homeless shelters. How was I in college??? No sorority for me as I was not much of a social butterfly in college. I did too much of that in High School. I would be truely happy when my children end up doing something that they really love and find enjoyment out of nature, music, art and more non material things. I am happiest when I am with the people that I love. My current age is 56. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be boring. I was so completely wrong. I don't mind working hard if it is something that I enjoy. I actually do have a career and enjoy my work most of the time. However, work is not my number 1 priority but I am lucky in that I love what I do. Oh I had several crushes in high school....and wish that I could reconnect with my lab partner/friend Bruce Benson who I can't seem to locate. If anyone knows where he is please call or email me. My best friends would tell you that I'm hilarious but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as business like/kind of serious.. Have I changed???? Well, lets see... I am not as self absorbed as I was at 16 and try to see the big picture. However, I still kind of look the same, ie, my hair style is still somewhat the same which is kind of sad. I got tired of being blonde in the early-mid 80's and then again in 2005. I will say that I no longer wear mini skirts or hot pants! The strangest job I had was working at a Photomat kiosk and of course my first job, slinging Kentucky Fried Chicken. I share my home with 3 males and 2 Standard Poodles. I sometimes feel like I live in a Frat House! Do I have any trophy's??? I have won a few business awards but no gold medals, etc. Just the kids have trophy's. If I had to change my life after graduation, I would have traveled to Europe after college instead of joining the workforce so soon. In 10 years, I hope to be still working very part time and traveling more. I'm going to get there by working the next 10 years. My oldest friend would probably be Laura Lepore. We were cheerleaders together in high school and in college and we ended up living in the same beach community as adults, married with 2 boys. She passed away a few years ago and I dearly miss her. What would people find unique about me? That I still love music that young people listen to. Going to see one of my favorite groups, Kings of Leon with my youngest sister Christine. My sister and I are going to see them for the 3rd time this August! Cannot wait! What was my first job and what did I get paid for that job??? My first job was at KFC, what I got paid not sure but it was def min wage to sling chicken in buckets and work the cash register. What I remember most about it was that it was hot and greasy back there.. Some of my best memories as a child were going on vacation with my family and cousins. We always had the best time either in the Mountains or at the Beach. I hope my classmates remember me as a kind and friendly person. I was kind of shy back then and I hope I was not perceived as aloof. Well that was the last question and hello to everyone and I am looking forward to seeing you at our class reunion next year! sc
