Sandra's Story

Sandra's schools include Oscoda High School and Atwater High School. Also attended Merced College & Univ. of Phoenix (Management, Criminal Justice) . Sandra worked at Merced County Child Support Services & District Attorney's Office for 20 years, Atwater High for a few months, and prior to that at a local savings and loan for 18 years. As a retiree, I have begun working part time in 2013 as a chairperson for a state contractor who does the oral exams to hire workers for Child Support and Human Services agencies in California. It affords me the opportunity to work when I wish and decline to work when I wish to travel ! It is the perfect job for me! I have been to every state in this beautiful country except Alaska .. and I plan to get there too some day. I've also lived in Venezuela and been to the Dominican Republic (during the winter baseball leagues in both countries) and to Canada for minor league baseball as well. I've been to the Caribbean 7 times and it is my favorite place on earth to relax and enjoy the variety of cultures on the different islands. Music Sandra likes includes Bon Jovi, Pink Floyd, (that's right... I'm still a rocker!) and Yanni, Adele, Mumford & Sons, and Of Monsters and Men. Books Sandra likes include anything about baseball, Living on the Black, Out of the Blue, The Talent Code, License to Deal, anything by the genius Stephen King, books about management, and books about the human brain. Movies Sandra likes include For the Love of the Game, Bull Durham, MoneyBall, The Sandlot, The Departed, anything with Leo Di Caprio in It. TV shows Sandra likes include MLB HIghlights, Quick Pitch, FRIENDS, Rizolli and Isles, Perception, The Glades,The Walking Dead, any pro baseball game, especially our Champion SF Giants. One of Sandra's favorite quotes ...Expand for more
is: "Baseball is like church. Many attend, few understand. -Leo Durocher". In 2011, I retired from my position as Deputy Director/Merced County Child Support Services in California. This fortunately gave me the opportunity to travel to see my son Brett pitch in all of his PAC 12 baseball games with Stanford University in his Senior year as well as the super-regionals in Tallahassee, Fl. I also got to see him sign his pro contract in D.C. with the Washington Nationals & also play his first professional season after being drafted in the 3rd round of the First Year Player Draft of 2012. I spent 6 weeks of the short season in beautiful upstate New York in the summer of 2012. Also went to Cocoa Beach to watch his first spring training the whole month of March in 2013. Stayed right on the beach and already have reservations to go again for the month of March 2014. Woohoo! I LOVE the beach! I was a pro baseball wife for 8 years of my 17 years with my son's father and am so happy to see Brett has excelled sufficiently to get into Stanford and graduate there and now to play pro ball as well! During summers, after I divorced, between 1998 and 2009 I was able to take Brett to see games in EVERY SINGLE baseball park in both the National and American Leagues. We saw both old and new parks too for several teams, like the Yankees, Mets, Mariners, Nats, Padres. Our favorite you ask ? ..Fenway! Love the old parks. He also played in the Cape Cod League and for the USA team, travelling to Taiwan and Japan in the summer of 2010. When I asked him if he wanted me to also take him to the 3 newest ballparks in Minneapolis, St. Louis and Miami, he said "NAH .... I'll pitch in them one day!" And I'm sure he will. IT'S SIMPLY THE BEST JOB EVER and I couldn't ask for a better son!
