Sandra's Story
Rick and I lived in Clinton, Mississippi, until "the telephone company" divested. In 1983 we moved to Atlanta, Georgia and both worked for AT&T until 1990. We then transferred to Jacksonville, Florida and stayed there until I retired in 1997. We then bought land in the Blue Ridge mountains in Blairsville, Georgia and built our dream home. I worked as the office manager for Century 21 Scenic Realty and Rick worked as an engineer at Panel Built, Inc. After living there for 10 years, our daughter Leslie asked us to move close to her since she had decided to have a family. Our son lives in Cumming, Georgia and will hopefully move closer as he plans to retire.
We keep Leslie's two little girls and our days are filled with dance, soccer, the park, school, swimming and all little girls things!
I enjoyed the 40 year reunion but no one has posted any pictures that were taken, so if you have any please share. It was great to see so many people but quite sad to see how many are ...Expand for more
no longer with us.
The biggest surprise about my life is that I would have moved so many times. I always thought that I would always live in Mississippi. Working for AT&T taught me quite a lot and much about people and no matter how different we seem, we are all really quite alike in many ways. I do believe that leaving Mississippi, really offered me many more opportunities and many different positions within the company. I have been blessed with many friends throughout my years working and value their friendships today.
One teacher that I remember is Eleanor Owens, one of our English teachers and I wonder about her. Can anyone forget Mrs. Deevers?
I hope to one day soon do some volunteer work. I guess after you have worked for so long it is hard to quit...but I am certain that there is NO job here that can be as tough as AT&T was. One good thing about doing volunteer work is that you can leave anytime.
Hope all of you have found happiness and are doing great!
Sandy
