Sandra 's Story
Remember Sandy Strauch? I was a Choralier. Don't do much singing anymore except in Church. I participated in sports also. I have a crazy sense of humor some say. I don't think they would have said that about me in high school.
I have been married to my soul mate for 40 years this February. We met October 1970 and were married February 1971. We have 2 sons age 35 and 33 and 6 grandchildren aged 10 to 2. We moved to NC 14 years ago. While living in the north east I worked for many years in health care after leaving GE. They sent me a retirement package this year. LOL....I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Human Development. That degree has served me well in dealing with the various personalities I encouter in real estate. Most recently, I have been working on a fast track education pathway to become certified in elementary education. That will be something good to have in case real estate bottoms out again. When we moved to NC I joined my husband, Dick, in the real estate business. We worked for a couple of major franchises for a few years but now have our own company (8 years) called Wilmington Real Estate 4U. Living on the coast and in a beautiful historic city has been good for quality of life and of course has been great for our real estate business. While we did experience some of the downturn 2009 and 2010 have been good years and it seems people are still relocating south and purchasing second homes on the ocean or waterway, especially if they are boaters. It is a very laid back lifestyle from the northeast and we love it. We stay busy with our grandchildren, work and try to get in a game of golf when possible. My golf game is finally tipping 100 and only once I hit under that.....I'll do it again before I am 65. We enjoy gourmet cooking and love a good glass of wine. Our baby is our Lhasa Apso "Clayton." He is quite a stubborn boy, but very lovable and great with kids. He loves watching golf and football. I am quite the footbal fan. Having a husband who loves the sport and 2 sons who played (one QB into his 2nd year of college before injury), I learned to love the game very early on. Of course we have Giant and New England patriots fans in this family. We love to travel. Cruises are our favorite past time, but we have been to Greece, Italy and H...Expand for more
awaii. Most recently, we finally, after all the years we have been in NC, took a vacation in Winter 2009 to Asheville, NC. We stayed in a mountain house on 3 acres and the views were outstanding. It was quite the trip up the mountain, but fortunately, we had my Jeep. We spend alot of time here driving on the beach as well. So far we can balance our time between work and play....I like playing best. I do have one thing more I would like to accomplish and that is writing a book. I am working on a children's book, but who knows where that will go. I really wish I could write one "juicy" novel. We have had a lot of our family migrate here, most recently my sister Terri and her hubby bought a second home about an hour from us. Dick's mom lives here, along with our youngest son and 2 nephews. I look forward to re-connecting with my classmates and that 45th reunion sounds interesting. There are so many of you I would like to visit with again.
Life has been interesting and I really don't feel like I am 60. Living in the south and coming here as a Yankee has been an eye opener at times. When we first moved here we were told to get the "NY" plates off the car quick. Then they thought the yankees had bags of money....think again. We actually like collards and pulled pork. We, of course, live in a brick house (remember the 3 little pigs...well we don't want the hurricanes blowing our house down).....hurricanes are really over rated folks. You all have experienced worse noreasters, believe me. It is a lot of media hype and my house is still standing and so are the ones at the beach. Truly, we are happy living with out "snow and ice." I did feel bad though when my grandson Kai asked me a couple of weeks ago when it was going to snow. The kids here want to see snow.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Mickey Vollmer, because I grew up with him and his siblings. We were best friends, played baseball together and I am sorry to say have lost contact. I came across a photo of he and I riding bikes when we were about 5 and it just brought back so many fond memories of the neighborhood. I do send his mom a Christmas card every year. Hopefully he will visit this web site. I did visit his mom this past summer 2010 to catch up. It was nice reminising.
