Sandra's Story
I worked retail through AAFES at LRAFB, a short time as receptionist at Twin Oaks Furniture Corporation, retail again at Price Drug until I could find hours that allowed me to financially afford and accomplish my AA in Business Administration and Management (emphasizing accounting) by taking college courses at night while working full time as a chairside assistant & the office manager for Drs. Bost and Suffridge (orthodontists). After graduating in May 1978, I married Terry Allen Sansing (JHS class of 1975) in July 1978. While able to stay home to raise our first son, Sandy Allen, born in 1980, I chose to work part time (mostly from home) including accounting for Price Drug and incorporated my own personal accounting business, which I dissolved under medical advice while pregnant with our 2nd child. As Sandy started school, his brother, Terry Lynn, was born (Aug 1985-literally on the Friday of the first week of Sandy's Kindergarten). volunteer work, I became familiar with the education environment and was able to demonstrate my skill set to administrators. After a couple of school recruitment attempts, when a Secretary/Registrar retired (1991) from Pinewood Elementary, the principal called me and asked if I was ready to work with him. When I said 'yes', I began working at that position until the bookkeeper retired (2004) and I was offered that position, from which I retired in June 2016. I also enjoy assisting Terry in his efforts as an elected official for the City of Jacksonville, acting as his secretary. Terry and I were blessed with very bright children who were both Mills University Studies Magnet HS Scholars Program honor graduates, attended college at UMR (now MO University of Science and Technology. Sandy works for Boeing in St Louis as a systems engineer and married April in March 2013. Terry Lynn is single and currently works for Bond Consulting Engineers in Jacksonville. As there are no grandchildren yet, Terry and I are 'empty nesters'; enjoying our parenting accomplishments, work and involvement within our community.
