Sandy's Story

Life I joined the Army right after graduation and spent the next 9 years there. Went to DeVry in Kansas City and earned a BS degree in Computer Information Systems in 95. I worked at Cadre Technologies in Lenexa, KS (suburb of KC) that provided inventory and accounting software for the public warehousing industry (3PL) - was there for 11 1/2 years. I worked part-time at Build-A-Bear Workshop in KC area as my fun job. I occasionally work with my new husband (pictured above) in his lawncare business (most fun job yet). I have 2 children from my first marriage - a 26 year old son named Sam and a 24 year old daughter named Christine. I have previously been married and divorced twice. However, on April 13, 2007, I was married to a fantastic Christian man (shown in "now" photo) from Andover, KS whom I met on March 19, 2007 while on a missions trip to China. As of February 23, 2005, I was a grandmother to a wonderful little boy named Jacob via my daughter. (He lives with his father.) On March 19, 2007, my daughter gave birth to her second child, a beautiful little girl named Caydence. Then, on November 25, 2008, my daughter gave birth to her third (and final) child, a precious little boy named Connor. Both Caydence and Connor live with my daughter and their daddy Chris. I enjoy reading romance and other mystery/fiction novels and collecting teddy bears as hobbies. School I attended South Grand Prairie Tx High School for my freshman and sophmore years. My family moved to DeSoto Tx in '76, the first year that DHS was open, so at least I wasn't any more lost than anyone else. I enjoyed my time at DHS, but wish that I had been more outgoing back then. I had a lot of fun seeing my classmates at the 25th reunion for DeSoto High in June 2003. (Where did the time go?!!) Now it's been over 30 years?? No way!! College I went to DeVry Kansas City when I was 29 years old. Amazing how much you can forget in 10 years!! Anyway, I did the "4 year degree in 3 years" program, but I decided to do the who...Expand for more
le 4 years, since I was paying for it. I graduated with a BS degree in Computer Information System in 1995 (exactly 17 years after HS graduation). Who knows, maybe in another 17 years, when I'm 51 or so, maybe I'll get another degree...or not. Workplace I spent much of the first 9 years after graduation in the Army. After I got out, I did temp jobs for a while, until I got word from another lady who used the same babysitter about a job working to help in the office of the Texas Vietnam Memorial Fund. That was in 88 or so. It felt good to know that I was able to help get the funding set that enabled the memorial to be completed only a year and a half after I started there. My daughter, then 3-4 years old, helped me with fund-raising during a couple of State Fairs by passing out donation envelopes. It was a good time. I was also there the day that the memorial was dedicated in 1989 by then Pres. Bush (Sr) on Veteran's Day. All other jobs pale in comparison to the impact that this job had and will continue to have for generations to come. I worked at The LDS Corp in Lenexa, KS since July 1995, first as a support tech, then as a QA/Documentation specialist. I now work sometims in the lawncare business with my husband. I got a seasonal computer job again in August 2008 working a tech help desk for a tax software. (ended March 2009) Military I went into the Army 6 days after HS graduation and spent the next 9 years there. I was a whole lot more like "Private Benjamin" than I was "GI Jane". I had 2 different jobs titles during my time in the Army - Military Records Clerk (75D) and Legal Clerk (71D). I was stationed in 5 different places during my time there: Fort Jackson, SC; Fort Hood, TX; Augsburg, Germany (near Munich); Fort Carson, CO (in Colorado Springs); and Kaiserslautern, Germany (known as K-town, where Ramstein Air Force base is). I travelled a lot when in Germany and had a good time. I'm not sure if I would do it again, but I don't regret the time that I spent in the Army either.
